BMW, if you're listening...
Don't mess this car up! Been a loyal customer for 20yrs and have purchased multiple models (all new) in that time. Don't like the new direction of the 4, M3/4, etc. If the G87 gets screwed up (big ugly grille, excessive weight/size gain, etc.) I'll be hanging up my bimmer keys for good. |

I currently have a F87 with only two seats in the back, I was hoping for a tiny more room

I'm told, the reason why cars keep getting bigger is in part due to strict emission control regulations from EU. Apparently, the CO2 emission is measured against metrics such as size/mass of the vehicle.

Good engine? It sounded great, but my 2011 e92 M3 had the tick of death at 25k as my bearings went to crap.

This is making things really challenging. I've been waiting to buy an M2 since they came out. I'm about to get a current one or Supra, but have been putting off due to the current M2 interior looking like a 10 year old car, poor mileage, S55 associated costs, and cost of upgrades. The Supra mostly due to it not being a manual.
Now, I have to decide to wait ANOTHER 2 years??!?! I think at this point I'd buy it regardless of how it looks, but what am I going to do for 2 more years!? This thing is going to be awesome.

Leave the M2 to be the only 'pure' M car in the whole of M's line up M3, M4, X3, X4 has the xDrive with the S58 With xDrive they need to add a front diff, a transfer case, drive shafts, fluids...all these extra weights = no thanks Further down the track it will be $$$ to maintain and fix them when the factory warranty runs out |

Hell I even find my M2C slow even though I am not after horsepower. Practically, it has to be competitive against the current and upcoming range of performance cars. A90 Supra, RS3 and A45 aside, it makes no sense for BMW to charge a 50%+ premium on the M2 over the 400Z, STi and Civic type R while only offering a similar level of straight line performance. I am sure all the aforementioned cars upcoming are going to have great driving dynamics. The current Supra and A45 certainly has it. I agree with you that the driving dynamics has to be a focus but both great handling and acceleration prowess are attributes on the performance chart that they need to make strides on. One must not neglect one for the other. Last edited by Karmic Man; 11-21-2020 at 08:57 PM.. |

Back in 2016, some folks had to wait many months to get the keys of the highly anticipated original F87 M2. There were waiting lists and markups in some regions. And back then there was also the appealing F80 M3 and F82 M4 around as premium alternative. It goes without saying that late 2022 we may also expect high anticipation for the second generation M2 after a painstakingly drawn out hype in 2021-2022. Combine this with something different compared to 2015-2016 that may even draw more attention to the G87 M2: the boat-sized G80 M3 and G82 M4 with its 'peculiar' design will be around (maybe already an LCI [life cycle impulse]). So, realistically speaking, make that 'someday in 2023' at the very earliest for you. And as you know, it's still the dreadful 2020 as we speak. You can still get an M2 Competition or M2 CS and enjoy those cars in the very near future, knowing exactly what to expect from those 'final design stage' M2 cars.
