Nice video if not a bit long from shmee 150 on youtube.

TY Best look so far. I am not an ostentatious or stylish person so part of me thinks there are too many scoops and creases but part of me enjoys all the eye candy and likes the crisp modern look. The top is partially exposed when retracted which is novel. The blind spots to the side, when up, look awfully big so lots of cameras are a must. It is a very modern make over that maintains the Z4 image. I think it is a serious effort to make a great Z4 that will be around for many years. It is also somewhat wider, which is not obvious in the video but should be impressive. The interior is slightly over the top IMHO but has some very nice modern features like the hidden phone charging panel.
I think it could be a big hit in the marketplace for a while with all the new ideas. I expect that prices will be somewhat higher especially when the new electronic diff etc are included.

Is it just me, or does it look like the Fiat/Miata Spider?

I wasn't too sure about this at first, but I think I may consider the M40i version they show. And it looks like the top has a hard plate on the leading edge that should help with noise and temperature retention like the hard top. I think the 'regular' Z4 will be too plain if it loses any of the body cuts in the panels. Haven't like any of the spy photos. I am not a fan of the new dash, though, on any of the upcoming cars.

Car and driver surmised yesterday that the 30i (4 cylinder) will start around $50K and the M40i will start around $60K in their article yesterday, so it won't really be out of line from the previos E89. And there is a money savings in the soft top. They generally don't just pull numbers out of the air.

Yes, a bit... except better! And the Miata doesn't have 385HP.

Well, there is that....

Of course, it only costs about half the price too. So, I dunno, half the price for half the horsepower? Is it worth it? LOL.

I personally really like it, but really do think the styling is too similar to other cars currently.

I'm sure it will be a great car but it does look a lot like the Miata.

The Miata looks like a scaled down version. Too small in fact for many of us.
In the Z4 video, under the hood, I hope they don't keep those cheap crude looking strut braces.

I am liking it better. I wonder if it will be easier to get in and out of with the top up

You put the top up?

That's why all of these guys need relay replacements - they are using the tool wrong....

Pretty much this. Will have to look to something from Stuttgart for replacement to the 35is. It has lost the proprtions and angles the e89 is know for. Also the interior wont be classic (sans nav screen) like the e89 too.

I am sure it is a better drivers car but so are the offers from Stuttgart

I’m keeping my 2012 35is. For the hard top if for no other reason. The new Z4 looks ok with the top down, but not sure I’d like it with a rag top.

Uggh... Just saw it for the first time and absolutely...

Looks like the Fiat, (but less cohesive (and the Fiat is a shadow of a real 124))... Also shades of the mid-90s Alfa Spider in the rear haunches, a C7 'Vette in the front fender side scoop. A return to the first-gen Bangle flame edge on the door. Rear end's a mess and what's with the "scuppers" bracketing the front center lower grill?

I really don't like it.

I like the overall looks of it and I love that they dialed in the driving dynamics to be a sporty car right off the showroom floor. I still don't like the soft top and the lack of a manual option will make it a hard pass for me.

Looks much better in this video than it did in person at the Quail unveiling. Compared to the concept car, this was a huge disappointment. The Quail unveiling had no crave factor for me. It looked like a hodgepodge of other cars, including a side view of the Mercedes SL (which is a messy design compared to R230/Black Series).

I've been really trying to like it but the more I look at it, the more hideous it looks to me. I'm sure it will be a great performer but it looks like they took several other cars and awkwardly stuck them together. To each their own I guess....

If you’re really curious, I believe they’ll have one at the LA Auto show at the end of the month.

Looks aside

1. A 4' wider track
2. 8 speed non dct+ a lot of torque
3 19" tires not staggered?? M40 only?
4. Available LSD
5 Fast top down at speed
But
Piped in exhaust
Objectively I think the wide track will give it a whole different super-car presence. But over all the styling seems very derivative and not anything new for a design that is going to be around for a long time.
I hope to get a test drive, but the E89 is more than adequate for my needs and I like that heavy metal top.
