Z4 Strut Bars

Hey Everyone, Just installed a Strutbar from Luxon. This looks like the most sturdy one on the market and I like the fact that it is a 1 piece design.

I like it. Looks great in the engine bay. Performs even better I assume under agressive conditions.

The stock strut tower bars bolt to the firewall, which is much much stiffer than a bar that goes between the two strut towers.

I think the looks are the key thing when shopping for these....

yeah. an ideal design would go from the top of the strut tower using the 3 strut mounting bolts to the firewall.

I thought the stock strut tower bars on our Z4 were already over-sized/stiffer compared other bimmers (such as the 335i convertible)?

I looks like he added this bar to the existing stock bars. should be stiffer overall.

Feel great, really stiffened it up a bit. I personally think it works and serves its purpose.

And it looks great in the engine bay. =]

I believe they are, but the engine bay is also a heck of a lot longer on our cars, hence the need for extra reinforcement.

That's what I was going to say. You took a "V" and made it a triangle, tying all three points together. Can't hurt.

Don't think this will fit the N54 engine cars properly. I saw it on the internet and the space behind the airbox is too small...the airbox will likely hit the bar as it moves during driving.

What was the difficulty in installation? Did you have to realign the front end after installation?

It looks like an N54 in the pics on the eBay page posted above.

I have no experience with this strut bar in particular, but they are generally very easy to install, often just loosening the nuts at the top of the strut tower, popping this thing, then re-tightening the nuts on top of this. And I don't imagine you would need to do an alignment.

I think you might need a front wheel alignment if you have removed the centering pins (eg for alignment) on the top of the strut towers because you are removing the bolts there too.

The install took about 10 mins and you will not need to realign your car.

This is designed to fit the N54's thus the curvature on the strut bar to avoid contacting the airbox.

Overall I feel a slight difference in handling and I am happy with the purchase.

Any updates on this strut bar? Is it worth getting - ie does it really stiffen the front end up?

barr

I am not a mechanical engineer nor a structural engineer.
But that piece look like 2 pieces of sheet metal rolled over some tube shape and spark welding. and both ends are solder with the mounting 3 points bracket.

Probably not as strong as one solid piece.
my 2 cents
