Extended warranty considerations
Just wondering if anyone is in the same situation as myself: I have a 2011 Z4 35i and am closing in on 50,000kms. In Canada, I believe that the std warranty is 4 yrs/80,000kms. So far, the car has been pretty good, no real concerns, so I'm wondering if I should get any extended warranty coverage. I would estimate that I rack up about 5,000kms/mth.
Not sure what to expect in terms of maintenance costs after my warranty runs out, or to shell out the $2,000+ for extended coverage. Any suggestions? |

Are you talking about getting extended coverage for maintenance or warranty or both? I found the extended maintenance coverage very worthwhile, as I think you will since you put on a lot of miles. Most people burn through their coverage on time and lose out. However, I am not a believer in extended warranty coverage. Here;s my reasoning: if you don't need any repair work, you lose all the money you paid for the warranty. On the other hand, if you take $100 or $200 a month and set it aside in a "repair account" you are self-insuring. If you never need a repair in the time you would have had the warranty, guess what? It's your money to keep! I think most people who buy a $60000 car can easily set aside this money. My 2 cents.

http://www.bmwusa.com/mpdisclaimer Extended Warranty - parts that break turbochargers, fuel injectors, alternators, starters, differentials, transmixers, etc. BMW has Silver, Gold & Platinum levels of coverage. Silver covers mostly mechanical and engine electrics. Platinum covers all Silver & Gold which is almost everything including all electronics including NAV screem. Gold is in between does not cover NAV screen. http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...rotection.aspx
