Formula 1 cost cap breach

No Hamilton fan here...just a disappointed F1 fan...

"Williams team principal Jost Capito says that a Formula 1 cost cap breach should be deemed a more serious offence than cheating on track."

"The penalty for such a spend – in excess of 5% of the 2021 cap limit – could extend to exclusion of the team from last year’s World Championship."

Szafnauer...“And I think the FIA have to appropriately punish those who have gone over. You have to first understand how big the breach was, and then what an appropriate penalty is.”

"Gunther Steiner also insisted that penalties need to be tough, even if the 2021 World Championship was concluded over nine months ago."

Man in the street..."If true, Verstappen needs to be stripped of his 2021 WDC. Winning it with Masi manipulating the safety car rules was bad enough."

Wolff... "It is now an "open secret" in the Formula 1 paddock that one team was "fundamentally massively" over the cost cap last year."

If I owned a F1 team, I’d cheat for breakfast, lunch and supper. (Though, not the Briatore/Alonso/Piquet type of crazy arse cheating.) And then if I were caught, I’d deny, deny, deny. This is entertainment, not pension funds.

That said, people eventually get very tired of cheaters. And of folk who defend cheaters.

Confiscation of points is among the wide range of possible penalties with could be imposed on a team which overspent, including fines.

2007 comes to mind.
That team is still around (including it's drivers from that year) and has lots of fans.

In F1....every new year is a new start.

(this also means that when Max becomes WDC, the season is morally over and everyone turns their eyes to next year)

That's a proper English retort!

The same type of rumours went around when RB allegedly was using an illegal floor that was flexing too much and that the new rules would greatly hamper RB's performance.
Result was of course that nothing was true and if any, RB got even faster than the rest.
And with seeing both MERC and Ferrari developing new floors as if that's nothing (especially MERC), I wonder who really spends the most money...

I wonder if the wolfs friend in 'merc assistance' had anything to do with this.A mole there secretly passing on stuff to someone can easily cover the tracks.

Toto sure misses those days when certain F1 teams could just disproportionally massively outspend smaller teams for wins lol

I'm compelled to point out that this is not a thread I started...even though my username is somehow credited to it. That first post of mine was a response and there were quite a few posts that preceded it in a thread with a different name...the thread title was changed and those previous posts are no longer there. Very strange.

Lets see what if anything happens tomorrow. I think some might have overspent a little the rivals might be squeaky clean who knows. But there does appear to be a little more smoke around this from the comments from multiple teams or is it just politics, maybe a bit of both.

I do know that the way accountants work you can ask three and get a different answer over what is right and wrong even with audit as well so this won't be a simple thing to solve and all down to interpretation. Suspect they will say this is how it needs to be next time and we won't be so lenient stop being naughty. And some of the other teams will be spitting with feathers that they have got away with it and we could have done that etc. etc.

My bet, we won't hear tomorrow... but we shall see.

So todays the day - maybe. In the British press yesterday they seemed to be saying that RB has breached but actually in the latest view / negotiation it will be minor and only a million or so.

Will the other teams kick off and what will the punishment be, now that could be the interesting bit I guess.

And no surprise the FIA are delaying any announcements on those that have passed and got a certificate or haven't until Monday.

It's a ''long and complex process'' as they say. How they will calculate with electronic receipts? Not like the old days when everything was on paper in black and white.
