What charger to use while flashing?

I want to get started with MHD tube, but I know you need a charger to make sure the battery doesn't die in the process. The one recommendation I saw before is for a crazy expensive charger but I've also seen people mention using a pretty inexpensive one. What do I really need?

I have never used anything more than a simple 6amp charger. I make sure it has been charged fully then leave it connected while programming.

I have also just left another car connected via jumper cables. Did some programming that took over an hour this way. Gas powered power supply!

I got one from Walmart for $30-$40 and has been using it for one year now and it is pretty solid. It has three charging levels and works with AGM and standard batteries.

I ordered this one off Amazon Prime. I liked the fact that added connectors and extenders were available. Useful in the garage, and it has worked well these last few months:

If you never had problems with your battery that was not user fault, or if the battery has already been changed you are good with doing 1.5 hours of writes before putting the battery on the edge

2 min flashes you don't need a battery charger unless you battery really sucks and I don't see that happening if your a Z4 owners

45 min full writes it is recommended to be on a charger. However if you have a healthy battery, lights stay off, you can get by without it.

Two back to back full writes (1.5 hours) put the battery on the edge. 3 back to back fullwrites killed the battery on my Z4

I left the car sit turn off for couple of hours and was able to get it started

Wondering the same. I have this CTEK charger

https://www.amazon.com/CTEK-56-158-A...attery+charger

Unsure if it'll work... I assume put it in car mode? With my previous car the dealer was using theirs in motorcycle mode. Used it over a 3 week long vacation in car mode and did not blow up my garage :P

Tangent, if you're in the LA area, I'm in Glendale and am gonna flash my car as soon as the OBD cables arrive. If you need a garage/charger feel free to stop by. PM me.

I guess I'll try with my charger in my car first ;-)
