Apparently what Fred said wasn't right.
"How Jaguar’s rebranding gamble triggered a 98% collapse in sales" Financial Express. Hand me that fork.

Jaguar's problem is Land/Range Rover. The market has shifted to SUV and the new RR and LR products are stylish and have carved out a unique space in the market, there's really nothing like them and they are selling very well. The sedan market is small and crowded, there's nowhere for Jaguar to go.

The reality that the traditional luxury buyer has moved into SUVs is inescapable. The other issue Jag has (and this is gonna piss people off) is it's European. The European market is tougher than the US market from a regulatory perspective, and Euro regulators have more control. Europeans are on average, more likely to go along with what their government says. In the US, a brand like Jaguar could launch a campaign of products that amounts to "the government told us to make EVs, we told them to f off and made big powerful V8 cars" and do pretty well, especially if they used it as a "Jaguar means I'm rich means I don't have to cut my emissions ". That sort of thing would offend in European, which is a critical market for them. So truly, they are stuck. Their market has dried up, their competitors are better than them in every way, and their regulators are forcing them down a path that is contrary to their history. They basically could go out in a blaze of glory doing what people wanted, or they could try to hang on doing something that gets attention and hope somehow it just works out. Clearly, they chose the "hope it works out" option. I don't think it will. I think Jaguar is destined to become a "service and rebuild our classic vehicles" company in short order. They'll probably move a few units to celebs/influencers.for content, but what real person is going to buy one of these over the insanely cheap lease deals all the other automakers are offering on their high end EVs? Like who would get this over an Escalade EV? |

Wow, all the Jaguar hate is sad to read, but I agree that their future seems uncertain. They've been around forever and have made some amazing cars over the years and years. An amazing history. I feel fortunate to have what I see as one of the last of the really beautiful modern XKs. Everything is relative, but this car is superb.

CEO sent packing. New CEO sends... BREAKING - Gerry McGovern, the architect of Jaguar’s 2024 ad and rebrand that caused a 97.5% sales collapse, has been fired and escorted from the building while the company scrambles to erase all traces of the disastrous campaign. Who'da thunk that campaign wouldn't sit right? ![]() * The UK is still scrood.

Do you think maybe we could have the F-Type back, then? Pretty please?

The real question is if there's anything left of jaguar worth saving. They have no product left. The only thing they had in the pipeline is a charger EV level flop.
Even if the new CEO stopped what everyone was doing and they all were put full time on a new "proper" Jag, sedan or coupe, they'd be at least 3-5 years out from sales. That's a long time to have near zero revenue, especially with a VERY expensive EV development you just paid for. Sure, they have LR profits to survive off, but that's only if Tata lets them. In a lot of ways, the smartest thing Jag could do is take the Range Rover platform, drop it down to a sportier quasi wagon quasi SUV thing, and get some sort of product out in like, 18-24 months maybe? Then they'd at least have something to tide them over while they develop a new vehicle. I dunno, it's hard to see much of a realistic path forward for them. I know everyone acts like building the F Type again will save them, but they had been barely selling those towards the end. That's a car that is effectively 15 years old now, selling 2-4k units a year globally. It won't save them. |

They should probably go ahead and produce the EV since it's sunk money at this point, and also go all-in on ICE SUVs. That's all anyone wants anyway, lol. But a halo car successor to the F-Type would be cool, though maybe not the best decision for them at this time. |
