Carbon buckets vs comfort seats

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey y'all,

So I'm currently in the market for a g80 but can't decide if I want carbon buckets or not. I love the way they look, but I'm worried about the comfort of them after long drives. I go to School in Az and my family lives in Ct, which means I drive across the country at least 2 times a year. Would it be comfortable spending 30+ hrs in them or should I opt for comfort seats bc of this?

I'm a fatass, and have owned M5 regular seats and carbon buckets. The carbon buckets are fine for me for extended drives. I haven't done more than eight continuous hours in them yet, but I haven't felt less comfortable in them than the comfort seats. I've heard others say different, but not many.

Seats are very subjective. What is comfortable for some may not be for you. You'll need to try them out and decide. Sitting in one for about 10 mins should be able to tell you if they are pinching anywhere, and if they have sufficient support at the lumbar and lower back area.

I have a 2023 M8 GC Comp and I have the carbon bucket seats. I am 6’ and no more than 210lbs. I only have 300 miles on my car, but I have spent a couple two plus hours drives. You arse is planted and I love that, but the middle carbon fiber could get a little annoying. However, perfect does not exist nor do I look for perfect, but the seat are EFFEN amazing and WELL WORTH IT. I am planning on a 650 mile trip (round trip) to The Three Sister’s in TX this Saturday (7/30). This will be around 11 hrs round trip drive.

You might post this in the G8x forum. I driven the M3 and 4 with those seats and my take home was that they look super cool but I'd pay extra to not get them. Great for the track, but as a DD I couldn't tolerate them.

I think its more of a get in and get out over the comfort. They are harder to get into and harder to get out of but once in I think they are very comfortable. On the track they are incredible so I would get them but if I never tracked the car I would probably not

I do not DD, since I work from home. Once you figure out how to get in/out, then it is downhill. It is a little more science to getting in/out than the regular M seats, but I still think it is worth it. In the end it is whatever you think and it is your money/ride.

I completed my drive from Houston to Leakey for the Three Sister’s here in TX. This was a good round trip, 10 hr drive, a little over 660 miles and I stopped twice to fill up. I zero issues while driving nor did I have any discomfort after the fact. I liked the fact that I was planted and did not move around in the seat while taking corners.

very very subjective. hard to know until one has spent a few hours in them on a bad day.

luckily for me my comfort seats are sculpted to my body!

only wishing for lumbar support but it lumbar only starts to niggle at the end of a 4 hr drive so it is ok

I am not sure what you mean by "comfort seats" but I have the luxury seating package which has the multicontour seats and they are very comfortable and immensely adjustable which is a good feature on long trips.

This package also includes the massage feature. It is not very strong but can be useful on a long trip.

If I have a chance to have a G80, it must have those seats. I drove an M3 and M4 with them on a track and must say I loved them. Getting in and out didn't feel like a problem, but I can see non-car people finding them a nuisance, even worse if you're not average weight.

Even if I don't like them, you can sell them for way more than what the added cost in the cars price is set at, so its a win/win.
