Best place to sell my 2018 Subaru Outback?

Hi all - As work schedule changes, I decided to sell my DD. It is a 2018 Subaru Outback, excellent condition, one owner, and all service records are available I tried to post it on Cars.com but they stopped accepting ads from private sellers not sure why, is dealers pushing them to do that

I'm checking your recommendation on best place to sell my Subaru. What site? CarGurus, AutoTrader? Do they still accept private sellers ads as well or not?

Thanks in advance for the feedback

from everything i've read, i'd try carvana. simple, easy, and no tire-kickers.

See what Carvana will offer you, the market is hot right now and will likely only get even hotter due to the chip shortage and Carvana has been giving out some pretty healthy values.

Cargurus is not my favorite service, we found my son's X3 from that website and did end up buying it, however I found their customer service incredibly rude and untrustworthy. They want to handle everything through their services, they even censor phone numbers if typed out in their chat with sellers/buyers for "safety reasons." They also want to handle the transfer of money but I found them to be very sketchy, I'm not giving them any money to wire transfer to the buyer. I ended up meeting the buyer in person and gave them my number so we could handle the transfer of cash, title, etc. in person rather than their services.

-autotrader is simple and effective, will probably give you top dollar. but you have to deal with tire kickers.
-you can facebook search local subaru groups and post there. fb marketplace and craigslist are free too but they are mostly for cheap cars / beaters.
-vroom and carvana are nice too. they will give you an instant quote and beat out dealer trade in most of the time.

Carvana and CarMax are in a fight for who can overpay for your late model used cars. Get in while the getting is good.

You can probably get slightly more through private sales, but then you have to deal with the tire kickers and people that want to trade for a 1995 civic and a pound of weed.

Carmax paid me about $1.2k more than Carvana. Just do an online appraisal. This was for a 2018 Subaru Forester Touring, which should be similarly in demand as your Outback.

Not dealing with the lowest common denominators is worth a few $k. I've sold two cars to Carmax and each experience was better than haggling with these people.

I sold my 2018 Durango and 2019 GTI this month.

Posted them in respective forums, Autotrader and Cargurus inaddition to Carvana, CarMax, KBB online offers. Sold the GTI to Caravana. A local dealer contacted me through Autotrader and offered more than Carvana for my Durango.

Both vehicles were sold within a couple of days and I was happy with the numbers.

+1 for craigslist

I was pleasantly surprised when I listed my LR3 there and it sold in three days for not a penny under asking!

Figured I would try that before some of the above mentioned popular options

iirc it was $5 to list on CL

I recently sold my Ford after receiving several quotes. The order from highest to lowest offers:

Autonation
KBB Instant Cash Offer
Carvana
webuyanycar
Carmax
Vroom

Spent two hours at the Autonation dealer and walked out with a check for the amount over payoff. Couldn't have been easier.

Give AutoLendersGo a shot as well. I have experience with both carvana and vroom and the service/speed by Algo was much better.

Great time to sell a car. I'm about to sell my 2016 Toyota Tundra Platinum (a very desirable vehicle at the moment) for MORE than what I paid for it 1.5 years ago, with an extra 14k miles. Makes no sense, but I'm running to the bank with it.

In order from lowest to highest offer, it was: Carvana, Vroom, Carmax and Toyota dealership of all places. They were all within $1-2k of each other. With the offers being that good, I didn't really see a huge reason to push for private sale too hard and dealing with people. Pretty much all these places offer online appraisals, so you'll get a very good idea of how close they are to what you want to sell it for.

Take a screenshot of what Carvana or CarMax are willing to pay for your car. Then head into any large dealership and they will buy it from you for $500 above that.

I'm looking to sell my daily too. Carvana had the lowest offer, Carmax is offering $2k more, and an Alfa Romeo dealership is offering $1k more than Carmax plus another $1k rebate toward a new car.

Never thought I'd be getting these sorts of offers on this car.

I've always been a proponent of selling privately over trading in, however the values are neck-and-neck at present time. Much more convenient to trade in than to go through the hassle of selling privately.

Good info here...I have a mint DD (2020 VW GLI that I treat like it is an exotic ) with only 4900 miles on it. No need for this car until my M2C comes in a few weeks from now. I like the online appraisal format, but I really want the dealer/buyer to see the actual car (it is literally better than new) to get the most dollars I can, especially in this crazy market.

Yes, smart thing to do. But the online tool gives you a ball park which is helpful before you walk in. As I mentioned in another thread, I had excellent offers from the Toyota dealership I was about to take, but I ended posting my truck up for sale on FB Marketplace. Ford dealership from another state reach out and offered $200 less than what I had listed for (private party value). Accepted offer, they sent 2 drivers literally next day with a check and done deal.

Got $3800 more than what I paid for the Tundra in summer 2019 with 14k more miles. Laughed all the way to the bank

I sold my old 94 Z28 to We Buy Any Car for over double what CarMax offered. Got the check that same day. But this was before Carvana and Vroom were around.

I've never had problems selling on CraigsList. College kids love Subarus so may be worth trying marketplace too if you have facebook. There are A LOT of flakes on marketplace though.
