I open the car door for the misses but only to make sure she doesn't hit anything.

I guess she got the job.

Good for her. I can't put in a clutch but I do put air in my tires and fill up my washer fluid. And I once posted tires for sale and measured the tread depth with my pretty french manicure.

I've been doing it since she was my friend. I don't plan on stopping.

Not just yet but she's a top contender. Still doing early interviews. Executive level position so it's going to take some time to properly vet and hire.

In general I try to always open building doors for any women, be it a friend, someone I am seeing, or random stranger. Of course I also hold doors open for people in general, maybe it comes from the 10 years I spent in Canada.
Last year I spent a bunch of time with a gal who grew up in Texas, and she was appalled that guys in Colorado weren't gentleman who always opened and closed doors for her, and even little things I didn't think about, like walking on the street side or driving lane side in parking lots.
I have been in the habit of trying to be there and open/ close the car door as well. Of course I get lots of practice right now, as my 3 yr old daughter relies on me to open and close the door for her haha.

I do because they will close my car door using the window if I don't.

I don't understand the younger females. How is it offensive if a man is being a gentleman?
Fairly said, but is that respect or double standards? Where is the line being crossed, because if my hands are full and she can carry something to make it one trip I'm having a hard time seeing that as being a gentleman. What I see through my eyes is that not being an efficent way of carrying things into the house, but more importantly not supporting each other as a team as both of you take care of each other for the rest of your lives. My fiance would not like this she would laugh and say I'll grab it "dumb dumb" but then again, everyone is different and I respect their choices.

Please note I said it's a battle - meaning I am grabbing packages as he protests that he will get them. I did not say I let him make two trips while I do nothing.

I open the car door for my wife and daughters and step daughter and mom and any other female who would be getting in the car. Just a courtesy, nothing more than that and a sign of respect intended; nothing expected in return.

If I am first in a group to a building door (interior or entrance), I will hold it for the rest of the group unless someone takes it from me. Especially at a restaurant, where I will hold a door for other diners as well, allowing those exiting to get out before my party enters. Gender doesn’t matter. Again, respect and courtesy.

If someone is offended by it, that’s on them because my intention is not to demean or offend, just to be polite, show respect, and be courteous.

I'm in the process of implementing Shari Law in our home therefore she should be opening all doors for me unless she is carrying the groceries and or luggage 10 feet behind me at all times, in which case I open the doors for myself only.

This is in theory of course, the training is not going well at all.

I'm dumbfounded as to why.

If it's a battle then that tells me he's taking it too far. Some women would love that, others like yourself say its too much but everyone's different. The fact that you said hes a gentlemen "that's what they do" is so engrained in our culture and it almost creates a double standard in this day and age. We could get political and what not but I guess we will keep it PG here

He’s a good man. Very strong moral compass. I feel as if he is a generation behind. He was raised different. He has the level of respect that my father has. I don’t take it the wrong way. I truly appreciate it when he gets to my car door first to open it or grabs packages out of my hands to carry them for me. He is a rare breed today.

Does the trunk count as a 5th door?

If I were approaching the vehicle from the passenger side, I would most likely open the door, then walk around to the driver's side as she got in and closed the door herself. This way she isn't waiting for me to walk around the car.

If we're approaching from the driver's side I most likely wouldn't walk around the car just to open the door for her. Of course rain and an umbrella would change things as if always keep her covered.
