I'll be visiting Dinan soon. I've been waiting for this. Thanks for sharing.

Three comments:
1. I had Dinan Stage II in my E93. Absolute blast and no troubles at all in 25K miles. 2. Assume this will carry the Dinan warranty. [Edit: website says yes.] 3. I thought the Z4 35i already had an oil cooler. Yes/no? Last edited by Rubber Ducky; 03-24-2010 at 07:28 AM.. |

awesome - if I had not already bought a host of performance improvements I would buy this package; if Dinan lets me I will invest in the enlarged oil cooler for my wife's 35i

I'd buy it only if it remapped the steering and suspension also. (Normal, Sport and Sport+ modes). Normal mode should be where Sport mode is now. Sport would be Sport+.
Oh well. JZ |

Just hung up the phone with Chris at DINAN to discuss the Stage 2 Package - specifically the OIL COOLER since my wife has the Stett FMIC, ESS Stage 2 tune, and Eisenmann Race Exhaust (I wanted to order the larger oil cooler if Dinan though she needed it with these mods). News flash, even now your 2009-2010 Z4 35i may NOT have an oil cooler. Yes, that is correct. When I read this thread I assumed, incorrectly, that all of our 35i cars had oil cooler since this was an issue on the 335is - NOPE. Dinan's 2009 Z4 35i in the shop now does NOT have one - they have confirmed with BMW that not all 35is have an oil cooler and they think if you did not order the Sport Package that you did not receive an oil cooler as best as they can tell at this time. So, I just looked at my wife's car and thankfully she has the oil cooler. If you have one it will be seen in front of the right front tire through a vent!!! If you have a solid wheel well with no slotted vent in front of the tire then NO oil cooler for you. This means that if you have the oil cooler you can simply order the Stage 2 now from Dinan. If no oil cooler you will have to wait a little bit to order this as they are working on a retro fit kit now. BMW perplexes me!!!!! as we should all have oil coolers with this motor!
JZ - I agree with the need for a steering remap - I would buy that remap in a heart beat as it is our only real complaint about an otherwise perfect car (okay, maybe it could be 200 lbs. lighter) Last edited by Vintage; 03-24-2010 at 05:05 PM.. |

For anyone interested, will be installing either Stage I or Stage II when my sked clears and local dealer has the software. Will post impressions here.
Am asking my Dinan dealer to run down Dinan's comment on the torque limit on DCT transmission - I recall from a posting many months ago that the DCT has a 375 lb-ft limit and this would rule out Stage II for DCT Z4s I think. Anyone in Florida interested in Dinan, I can highly recommend C2Designs in Tampa. Dinan Platinum dealer. Chris Chapas, who runs the operation, has the cleanest small shop I've ever seen and he was really great to work with when I did my E93 Stage II (recall that BMW had to retune the N54 in the E9X and this meant reinstalling the Dinan tune also; no cost, no fuss). The question of Dinan tuning (a complete firmware remake) vs JB and other chip-based tunes comes up regularly. As I understand it, the chips sit in front of the ECU and send it modified inputs to cause it to produce 'tuned' outputs, with no alteration of ECU code. I've driven a JB-tuned E92 and can tell you it really flew. But I think the Dinan approach is more elegant and that the warranty is a deal-maker even at the (much higher) price. YMMV and no knocks on those who go the chip route. Best comment I've heard on the N54 was from Chris: "BMW sure left a lot of performance on the table with that engine." BMW as much as admits that with the 'is' versions of the E89 and the E92/93, though BMW is quite conservative with that upgrade. BTW, have not heard of a single N54 failure of any sort in any model BMW related to either chip tunes or Dinan software. If anyone does know of such a problem, please speak up. Absent that, my opinion is that these are pretty safe. Again, YMMV. And the DCT torque limits are an open question. |

Scotty, Damn it! I need more power to the DCT!!!
In talking w/ Dinan at the October or November 2009 Pacific BMW Accessory Fest in Glendale, Calif., he had no qualms about raising hp and tq to 335i Stage III levels with the e89 DCT.
As I remember my conversation with him (he said a lot of people misquote him so I’m being careful), he said BMW is very conservative in their estimates of how much power the e89 could take. In his opinion, he felt the e89 could handle it by a margin factor of 2 whereas; BMW would allow a factor of 4. You may want to confirm that for your own comfort levels, but he offered that info quite freely. A BMW CCA Los Angeles Chapter member was there listening quite attentively as well. BTW, this Sunday, for Southern California residence there’s another Pacific BMW Accessory Fest in Glendale, Calif. I’ll make another post about here shortly. |

What is "Sport Package"? Here in Sweden now they have M-sport package for all models. This option is only 1 month old. My 35i with M-suspension and DCT may be without oil-cooler when it arrives? I ordered in dec-09 when there was no Sport Package and delivery will be week 15. My CA is an vacation so i can't ask him. What do you think? Have or have not? I'm alittle bit confused |

Your wife's car really is a "badass" and at the same time a "sleeper". Nice work |

That's a good question. I looked at their web site and readily found contact info for the US, Canada and the UK. However, I'm not a spokesmen for Dinan only an enthusiastic supporter. I get their newsletter and share that info as I receive it.
I'd suggest that you give them a call at: 800-341-5480 http://www.dinancars.com/bmw |

Oil Cooler
You can readily see the oil cooler by looking through the lower right front openning above the splitter, you'll also notice that openning on left side is not a pass-through.
