Smile Apple CarPlay

Hello All,

I want to add Apple CarPlay to a 2016 Z4 (E89). What is a good unit to add as far as features and price? I was looking at the BimmerTech CarPlay with the backup camera, Ideas? Thoughts?

Thanks,

Jodi

Is good audio performance an issue for you or not? If it is your choice becomes more limited?

Most of the units feed audio into the 3.5mm socket resulting in poor quality audio / playback..

Mr !2 Volt does a high quality audio feed version via the MOST bus..

As above, I'd highly recommend the Mr12volt box, superior sound quality via the digital fibre optic network (MOST) as opposed to the anologue AUX input of all of the other boxes available. Integration is much better as well and looks more OEM.

I just happen to have a video on how to install it (direct link in video description)....

I've installed a few of these Mr12volt boxes and I've installed quite a few of the other type as well (I used to run one of the other boxes for quite a while until Mr12volt brought theirs out)

Here's my video on installing the other type of box (they are mostly the same in conectivity)...

Hope that helps

Thank you so much, everyone. I will purchase the Mr.12volt. I like that one.

Just a warning from a very bad experience for anyone wanting to buy a screen with CarPlay/Android auto from Alibaba. Bought one Viknav custom fit E89 unit (they have many Viknav stores on there, all is the same business) for 777$. It worked 2 weeks very unreliability, unstable, crashes, won’t connect, etc, then total crashed while changing letter size (!), no reboot or hard reset possible. Customer service from Viknav told me it’s my fault for installing Google apps (that’s what it’s for!). After trying to troubleshoot in vain, they told me to send it back for refund, which I did, then they don’t answer any emails, that was 8 months ago, still no refund, no answer. So stay away from them, friendly advice.

Did you install it and if so, what are your opinions?

If it's any help I've had my Mr12volt box in for almost a year now. I use it everyday and I can't fault it. The sound is superior to the other mmi boxes (digital via the fibre optic network as opposed to analogue through the AUX on all the others), and it just integrates much better as well.
I can highly recommend it
