Hi there from the Netherlands!
Old topic, but I just wanted to let you know that retrofitting a CC is possible on the E89. I have an 2010 Z4 sDrive35is with nearly all options, except CC. In the Netherlands this model is not even sold without CC, but I imported mine from Germany. Anyway. You need to replace the full set of steering column handles with the one that has a CC and of course you need a new cover because of the additional hole ![]() It cost me about 400 dollar for the set of handles, 50 dollar for the cover and coding took 2 hours at a BMW specialist. Which parts you need exactly depends on the options you have, e.g. heated stearing wheel, rain sensor etc. Find the parts you need on realoem.com. Stories are told that you need to replace the tacho (around 800 dollars here ![]() Once coded, you will have CC with brakefunction, hope this helps ![]() Pics: Steering wheel off: ![]() Old and new handles next to each other: ![]() Fitted: ![]() Coding: ![]() Last edited by Toink; 01-08-2013 at 01:17 AM.. I don't know, but if you have a look on realoem.com then you'll find out which partnumbers you need exactly. You need only two parts, handles and a coverplate.

Hi Toink, I'm keen to know if you've had any issues with your Cruise Control Retrofit...? I have just bought a Z4 with most of the available extras but (for some reason) it doesn't have cruise control. I'd really like to retrofit it but have been advised that BMW say it's not possible.
Apparently "There is more to installing the component and recoding so as a result they have never released a kit. There are all sorts of software issues and potential control unit glitches so they have advised it does not work." Given the price of the parts in question you can understand that I'd like to be fairly certain it will work before making the necessary purchases. I would of course be keen to hear from anyone with any opinion on the matter. Kind regards, James |

Toink.
Would you be willing to share the Coding information. If necessary, I would be willing to pay your dealer for the information and coding changes. Regards. |

It isn't Active Cruise Control that keeps your distance from traffic using a radar. It simply is capable of using the brakes to hold your speed when going downhill or to reduce your speed more quickly than coasting down if you change the cruise hold speed from 80 to 50 for example.

If anyone is interested in this retro-fit I've managed to colate all the information in two Word documents (1st is the physical installation and the 2nd is the coding stages). They are mainly other peoples work but just all together with some additional information especially for the e89.
They are on my DropBox account .... Part 1 >> https://www.dropbox.com/s/3qj1ty50rg...t%201.pdf?dl=0 Part 2 >> https://www.dropbox.com/s/ltfnhvygop...t%202.pdf?dl=0 (Part 2 now includes links to new profiles and SPDaten files as well as instructions on how to load them) I hope that is of help to someone.

I have an 2010 E89 without cruise control. I had a bmw specialist read-out the car and he confirmed that cruise control was already in the software. The guy was not willing to take the risk of working with second hand parts I found on ebay and I was not willing to take the risk of insisting on that and having to pay twice, so he ordered the new parts (extra cc lever requires complete unit to be replaced) and will retrofit cruise control in two weeks time. The intervention will take a couple of hours. Costs incl labour and parts EUR 750,- in The Netherlands.
It's a lot of money but I find myself constantly checking the speedo and after about 4 hours of driving I get cramp in my right leg because of constantly backing up the throtle a notch. So it's worth it for me. Hopefully this will help someone else too. I'll report back after the intervention. |
