I ran a charity event over here in Newport Beach, CA and guys would bid on a date with a girl, and there was also a male date auction side. You should TOTALLY do this next time! HOWEVER....in order to conceal LARD[s] like me, I try my best to keep the bottom button on for 2 buttoners inside the building. This is very reason I have 3+ buttoners and few double breasted.

A bit of a generalization mate. You need to know your public and dress accordingly. In my field, it's suits to customer meetings and when I go into the office.

No no no! If you have a gut, double breasted accentuates your girth, not hide it. Double breasted suits are for thin Ralph Lauren models! The 3 button is a good choice. Also, a 3 piece would suit you well. Leaving the jacket open, exposing the vest , is a much better option than a double breasted one.
