I think it really doesnt matter what brand you use..
Just dont follow the idrive oil change intervals. On my cars idrive it says to change oil after 2 years or 15000miles Something like that.... Now this may not be the case on newer cars as bmw changed n54 servicing years after my car was made. With it they shortened oil change intervals considerably to 1 year or 10000 miles. But if idrive hasnt been updated(if it was ever even offered), it still shows old interval like mine does. https://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=868300 I usually change oil yearly as my mileage is low, 4300miles a year max. If i were to use my car more i would change oil at 6000miles, because i think 10000 miles is still too much. I use Castrol oils in mine. OEM spec (dont remember what it exactly was (5w40, 5w30 or something like that) N54 oem oil cap has Castrol logo on it by the way. So i guess its recommended.
