Thanks italy for this. Im looking to upgrade my worn out brakes to a set of F30 m sport brakes right now, i assume that's the same as M235i calipers right?

Your post really helps me out. I'm going to buy a set this weekend.

Take the 370mm BMW Performance Setup. This is definitely the better choice for a comparable price to the 340 mm set.

NO this is the upgrade for <35i/S, because the rotors are smaller than the OEMs (not allowed for Europe, because downgrade).

Would the base 335i F30 caliper (the ones that come with the 340mm rotors) be PnP with a M-Sport rotor (370mm) as the calipers are interchangeable? Or would there be other parts I need to buy to make them work?

Seems like purchasing the 335i stock caliper and buying the M-performance rotor stand alone would be a better deal. That, and you get your choice of color when having it powder coated.

I would think that you would need a different bracket at a minimum in order to space the caliper enough to clamp the bigger disc. But it would not also surprise me if the piston sizes on the brakes are different. Generally speaking a bigger disc needs a smaller piston in order to maintain the same braking force as a smaller disc.

Please see my post #32 - there I already mentioned the correct p/n's for the brakes.

And no, the caliper for the 340 mm disc is not p'n'p with the 370 mm disc. There is no spacer bracket available.
The best deal for you is to buy the complete 370 mm kit.

If you want to powder coat the calipers, you have to disassemble the complete calipers anyhow (incl. pistons ect). Sand blasting must be done for all calipers as well - so you have the choice of color also for the 370 mm calipers.

You can also paint the calipers with heat resistant paint - the OEM calipers are also just paint coated. So you just need color which resists min. 280°C.
By using paint coating you can also tape the pistons and you do not have to disassemble the complete calipers (although the complete disassembly would be the more quality way to go also for paint coating).

Correct regarding the calipers/ discs with the spacer.

I think the pistons should be identical because the repair/ sealant kit for the calipers are always the same as from 114d to M4 and even i8 (P/N 34116850935).

Please explain your theory regarding the smaller pistons at bigger discs more in detail.

If I'm not mistaken, both 370mm and 340mm rotors are PnP, depending on which calipers you get.
M-Performance caliper uses 370mm rotor, PnP
335i base brakes + Sport brakes uses 340mm rotors, also PnP

As nuebbes mentioned (although have not confirmed myself, based on what he is saying though), the M-Performane calipers and Sport calipers although the same, uses a different bracket, so getting Sport Calipers and buying 370mm rotors would not work.

For those who have done this upgrade... since it is not officially approved by BMW for the e89, did anyone get coded afterwards? I know for both the E9x and F30 Performance brakes, BMW "requires" a DSC re-coding in order to retrofit them. Any down sides to not coding? Would a dealership code a E89 that is NOT approved for these brakes?

Clarification: Everything I said in the previous post was in regards to the F30 (e.g. M-Performance Brakes being 370mm, as for the E9x the M-Performance brakes are 338mm in diameter)

The F30 335i rotors are 340mm, as the E9X calipers are not "big brakes" so I don't believe ever made it onto this list as as a brake upgrade.

Partially off-topic: the ex-Z4 OEM calipers, carriers, pads and rotors resurrected.... quite unsurprisingly, they become a PnP front brakes upgrade to 320d e91 MY2005 ....

Get this instead of you are not planning to heavily mod your car. In my opinion you only need a brake upgrade if you have the 30i, 35i or 35si or if you want it for looks or gonna do heavy performance modding.

This looks good and really affordable. My friend has it on his E36 M3, the brakes saved his life once. Lol

great thanks. i think this is the e90 kit. others have said this is the most cost effective option. i dont think the rear is compatible but i may use the 35 is rear for that.

i want it for the occasional track day and for the looks too. i'm not planning on heavy modding but suspension and exhaust are minimum mods

its a pretty quick car in manual with the 2.5 straight 6 very impressed with the power
