The F30 calipers look smaller compared to the E90... but on 19s, the E90 rotors are just too small and don't fit the well space as much. |

@italy: one more set of questions and.... you sold the idea to me...
Did you re-use the original (35is) brake pad wear sensor or put a new (of M235i setup) in? And what about the protection plates left and right - did you leave in place the original (35is) ones or replaced them with the ones coming from M235i setup? (Sorry for being pushy, I tried nonetheless failed to find your pics albums so I keep asking....)

Aren't the 340mm rotors for the F30 335i brakes? It looks like you have the BMW Performance ones (the ones that come in red/orange/gold) and if I'm not mistaken those come with the larger 370mm rotors.

So, I just ordered the M235i (S2HNA sport brake package: slotted/drilled rotors 340/30, left+right calipers+pads) parts thru local authorised BMW garage. Will report after it is delivered and fitted up.

No the M235i also uses the 340mm rotors. It looks like they use the same brake setup for the 2 and 3 series.

Some more infos for updating the first post: E8x 135i/ E8x/E9x PP 338x26 mm with 6-piston calipers -> there are 2 versions available. This brake would be not legal for Germany/Europe for the 35i/35is-types, because the discs are smaller than the original discs 1. E82 135i: No perforated discs and grey calipers: 6-piston calipers grey: 34106860143 + ...44 6-piston calipers grey: 34106786059 + ...60 brake pads: 34116786044 brake discs 338x26 mm (not perforated): 34116778647 dust cover: 34106780216 + ...15 I don't know why there are 2 different caliper types available? 2. E8x/E9x Performance upgrade: 6-piston calipers yellow: 34116786741 + ...2 brake pads: 34116786044 brake discs 338x26 mm (perforated): 34116786392 The calipers of the brakes are interchageable, as well as the discs. F2x/F3x 340x30 mm/ 370x30 mm You have 2 different p&p upgrades: 1. 340x30 mm discs with 4-piston-calipers (for 17" wheels): This brake would be not legal for Germany/Europe for the 35i/35is-types, because the discs are smaller than the original discs 1.1 335i brakes: 4 piston calipers: 34116850931 + ...2 discs 340x30 mm (not perforated): 34116792223 brake pads: 34116859066 1.2 335i M-Sport brakes: 4 piston calipers: 34116799469 + ...70 discs 340x30 mm: 34116792223 brake pads: 34116859282 I think the difference in the caliper-p/n's are the colors of the calipers. The M-brakes should be painted blue and the normal brakes one is unpainted/ grey (but this I don't know by 100%). 2. 370x30 mm discs with 4-piston-calipers (for min. 18" wheels): 4-piston-calipers yellow: 34106855475 + ...6 4-piston-calipers red: 34106855477 + ...8 4-piston-calipers orange: 34106855479 + ...80 discs 370x30 mm (perforated): 34106797603 dust cover: 34116792237 + ...8 brake pads: 34116859066 Calipers from 340mm and 370 mm are similar in general, but have other mounting points and brackets because of the bigger discs of the Performance brakes - not interchangeable! Pads should be interchangeable from shape. The 370 mm BMW Performance brakes are the better solution for upgrading the Z4 than the 340 mm and the only possibility for Europe to get a legal p&p solution for the 35i/35is. F8x M3/ M4: Calipers from 340 mm F30 brakes with 380x30 mm discs. To fit them to the Z4 you probably need adapters or you have to adapt the M4 swivel carrier (31212284001 + ...2) to the Z4. I guess adapter brackets would be the more simple soultion: 4-piston-calipers: 34116799469 + ...70 Discs: 380x30 mm (perforated): 34112284809 + ...10 Dust cover: 34112284743 + ...44 M-brake pads: 34112284765 ALL INFORMATION AND P/N's WITHOUT ENGAGEMENT Further solutions: I am working with a friend on two other brake solutions at the moment using oem parts - bigger ones than the previous mentioned We are also working on a solution for the rear brakes with oem parts, but there we are not 100% sure yet. Updates on these solutions coming soon... |

@nuebbes: Well, (based on the above written) I gather there is at least one further option stemming from F2x and F3x range:
N2SHA sport brake package: rotors 34106797602 (340x30mm, slotted/drilled) caliper right 34116799466, 2pot blue + ///M badge caliper left 34116799465, 2pot blue + ///M badge pads 34116859066 This is what I ordered the day before yesterday, I am off next week (gone skiing, what else), but I aim to have it installed once I am back, will report then (supposedly this sould be a straight PnP)

Your ordered calipers should be comparable to the other 4-piston-calipers of the F3x-series: But why do they have other P/N's? |

Great info looks like the 370/30 are the way to go here in the EU. I was wondering would it not be better to get drilled rotoars form another source as several members have done on all 4 corners?

@Vail - off topic: looking at your stated domicile, few hours ago I sped thru destined to Tignes, France....
on topic: I believe I will remain "legal" even with these "small" 340mm rotors, as my 30i originated 330mm rotors in front

Although, in my opinion the 35i/35is-brakes would be the cheaper solution for upgrading the N52 brakes. I will also install my brakes in our e88 N52 after I have installed my new brake to the Z. |

@nuebbes: yap, you are right the 35is setup might be a step further for 30i... but... as I wrote above, I am concerned about the unsprung weight, and this M235i setup will add lesser mass. Moreover (and I take it as an extra bonus) those S2HNA calipers are 2pot instead of a single potted 35is ones.

As indicated, the calipers are the same as the F30 340mm version which are PnP. The 380mm M3/4 rotor looks like it could be PnP for our Z as well based on pictures alone. This would indicate the whole set-up should be good to go given enough wheel clearance. I'm not too technical when it comes to brake components, but based on what I do know wouldn't this make sense? Please feel free to correct me. Also... commented on your other thread. Without having physically inspected the calipers, but again based on logic and pictures, the M3/4 CERAMIC brake calipers may be PnP or at least with minor medications may fit our Z as well. |

If you would install the 340 mm (=M4-calipers) at the Z4, you could install the 340 mm rotors, because we already learned that they are p&p. If you would install the 380 mm rotors with these 340 mm calipers, they cannot fit, because the rotors would raise the calipers by 20 mm (40 mm diameter difference). There would be no possibility to fix the calipers with the bolts to the svivel carriers, because there would be a gap between the mounting points of the svivel carriers and the caliper mounting points, because you raised the calipers from the 340 mm rotor mounting position to a 380 mm rotor mounting position. Therefor you would need adapter brackets, which would be installed between the original assembling points and the mounting points of the calipers to compensate the 20 mm gap. I hope you understand better now? So the 370 mm PP-brakes would be the more simple solution with almost the same result. |

i have a set of non painted f30 335i 340 mm front calipers unpainted but no discs.
I want to install these on my z35is with 348 mm stock rotors, did anyone try this setup ? will the 348mm disc fit with the calipers designes for the 340 mm f30 ? |

Theoretically it could fit and it would be a very good idea. Both discs have 30 mm thickness. It is depending on two points: 1. the clearance between the 340 mm caliper cut expander spring or other parts of the caliper and the 340 mm rotor in combination with the position of the brake pads at the oem setup. 2. The depth of the pot of the rotor must be the same at the 340x30 mm rotor and the 348x30 mm rotor. Otherwise the disc and the caliper wouldn't be centered. But if you already own the calipers, why don't you test-fit these? Should be done in 30 mins. max.. |
