Sorry to bring this post back from the grave.
Just got the car from a local dealership who told me it'd recently changed the oil and that was that. No details.
Can I later on replace the existing oil (whatever it is) to Mobil1 high mileage synthetic or something comparable to it?
Would it affect the engine by any means?
I've always used Mobil1 syn. for all of my rides in the past 20 years.

Which engine are you talking about? That drives the discussion…

I meant "possibility damaging the or affects the engine performance"
Based on what I found on line (caranddriver site). It should not matter what type either synthetic or mineral should be fine for the engine.

The version of the engine drives the recommended viscosity and rating not knowing which engine means you don’t know the correct viscosity rating…

Also where you live and when you drive helps proffer the best recommendations..

The local German car shop has been using Liqui Moli 5w-40 in my n54 and I just recently changed the oil myself using the Liqui Moli 5w-40 Molygen New Generation. I don’t see why I should change to a different brand.

The LL01 rating is what you need to look for. I've been using Mobil1 0w40 in my BMWs since about '04 and all of them have been great with it. That LL01 rating is almost guaranteed to eliminate any non-synthetic oils; I've never seen a mineral oil that meets those requirements.

I'm not loyal to one particular brand. However I do stick with BMW approved "specs." I roll with either Castrol, Mobil 1 Euro, or Liqui-Moly., 0-30, 5-30, 0-40, 5-40 whichever is available.

I live in south Florida and have been changing the oil every six months regardless of miles, which is usually about 3000 miles. Current mileage on my 2009 3.0 is 25k. It's my daily driver.

I also add Liqui Moly Hydraulic Valve and Ceratec additives at each or every other oil change, depending on my level of love for the car at that moment. I have not needed to top off the oil in between changes.

As a result, I don't worry about the limits of the oil. Nor carbon build-up on the valves, scoring, shearing, etc. Keeps things flowing. It's metal! -friction and heat are the enemy.

Cheers!
