The 911 Targa would be an excellent choice. Since you already have the X5M as a daily driver and for family duties, there is likely no need for another SUV/larger vehicle in the household.

If you are keeping the X5M, I would not get another SUV. If you would sell it, try a Cayenne Turbo. For the 2nd car, I would buy a comfortable 911; my choice would be the 911 Turbo, but if your wife is happy with a lesser 911 you would save some money. I would skip the GT3 if it is a driver as opposed to an occasionally driven toy.

Honestly some of these cars are serious overkill for a person who is not that fussy and is a DD.
Just get 991 S and call it a day. |

First, I would eliminate the Cayenne...you don't need a second SUV given your desire for a change. I would also eliminate the M8 as you already have a large vehicle and don't need such a large vehicle as a fun car.
Then I have a question for you: as you child gets older, and larger, do you plan to keep the car. The 911 is a great car but the back seat is a joke. It sounds like you need to have the "toy" be able to carry the child in a pinch. Can you fit a child seat in the 911? Do you intend to keep the vehicle for many years? If yes...what about leg room as the child grows? I think I would recommend the 911 if the back seat isn't a problem and the M3 if it is. Getting a baby seat, and a baby, into the back seat of a coupe is not easy so I don't see the benefit to you of the M4 over the M3. If you really need a full back seat, then go for the Panamera but that is a big vehicle so it is not as tossable, nor as fun, as the 911 or the M3. |

My first thought is that if the wife wants a 911, then get the 911. Otherwise, these are my second thoughts: 1.) M4C - Alpine/Frozen White Metallic (approx. MSRP: $82,000) Nice 2.) M8C - MBB/Alpine (approx MSRP: $135,500) Big, fat, loud, heavy, stupid expensive, ridiculous depreciation. 3.) M3C - Portimao Blue (approx. MSRP: $80,000) Nice. Better family choice than the M4. 4.) Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid - (approx. MSRP: $106,500 -- not including $6,712 tax credit) Ugh. SUV. 5.) Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid - (approx. MSRP: $130,000 -- not including $6,712 tax credit) I had a Panamera ICE. Great car. Insane depreciation. 6.) Porsche 911 [exact model unsure] - (approx. MSRP: $140,000 - $185,000) Porsche 911. There is no substitute. I've had four of them, but not going back. Just getting too expensive, losing the charm. More capable but with less character. 7.) Porsche 911 GT3 - (approx. MSRP $186K) The techs at the dealership told me that it's unbearable on the street. Given the diversity of car ownership on these forums, I'm not limited to those named above but I would like to stay in cars made in Deutschland.RS7 ? Hard to argue with that.

The Targa may be the most compromised 911, but it sure is gorgeous

If you're in a position where you can buy a 911 GT3 then hands down that is the car to own regardless of what else is on your list. Get a beater to daily and save the GT3 for nice weather days and weekend.

M2C should be in here, as one of the best driving BMWs. If you need 4 real seats, get the M3. If you think you need lots of room, like carrying full size adults in the back, get the M5 or M8. M2C though if she is just looking for a fun car IMO. Lots of other cars also fit that bill, but the M2C is definitely a sweet spot in that field.

I just bought a 991.2 911 GTS, what an amazing car. Perfect blend of power and luxury. Totally redefines driving. Was going to buy a GT3 but just too rough around town, it’s a better track car....plus I hate the huge ‘look at me” wing.
