Being discriminated against. Please help.
My mom got into a major accident on her way to work this morning up in Hagerstown,MD. Thankfully nothing happened to her. She does think that the Camry is totaled. Now, the thing the is that my mom passed a green light and the other guy was turning, he had a red. He turns and hits my mom from the side causing her to slide. Two of the guys friends saw the accident happen. They quickly go over to the guy and tell him that they will tell the cops that it was my moms fault and he shouldn't worry about it. If you guys didn't know, My family is Iranian. My mom wears a Hijab. I think there is some major racism going on here. Now, my mom has $180 ticket(for no reason) and I don't know about points. What can we do? Lawyer up? Can anyone help?

Is there a traffic camera or any other witnesses that can verify your moms story?

Everyone is ok thankfully. Just really pissed. Filing a false police claim is actually a crime. We're going to try and nail them on it.

I don't think you should worry, as eye-witnesses aren't the most reliable forms of evidence anyways.

Seriously I am sorry and think these guys are assholes if what you are saying is true. But why must it be a racist thing. I am sure that the friends would back up the other driver no matter what the sex or race???
I hate it when people pull the racism card whenever things don't go their way. Your mom is lucky she can drive in this country. |

Something similar happen to me and my bro when we were coming home from Highschool. Some judge's daughter reverse and back her whole rear end on top of our car in middle of traffic. Somehow she got her way and was consider no one's fault. Sadly, to say two years has passed and her family has been struck with horrible luck. Youngest son passed away, daughter became a crackhead and father no longer is judge. Karma is bitch.

I'm sure if my mom wasn't wearing her scarf, it would of gone down the same way. I can't even say that without laughing. I hate it when people don't know what they're talking about. |

damn, thats a tough one. id go to the businesses around the intersection (if there any) and see if their security cameras could have seen exactly what your mom did

yeah i dont think those guys can be credible eye witnesses since they are his friends. If it was random motorists stopping and then telling the police that it was your mom's fault, then yeah that's pretty crazy and racism probably played a part. However I think, in my opinion, that it wasn't much about race than it was about his friends trying to back him up. However i think things will work in your favor and you will be able to get that fine voided in court. Good luck man and keep us updated

1) why would she get a $180 for running a red if the cop did not see it? there is no proof except a traffic camera. and if she did run it with a camera, she'd have her picture taken. i'm sure your mom can contest this.
2) red light green light cases usually end in a 50/50 settlement with insurance. it just becomes a he said she said ordeal. i think most traffic lights work in a specific order. if his light went red before your moms went green then there is a chance he ran the light and vice versa but i could be wrong. in any event, both situations are worth looking into more.
