Rare Coins and Will it Keep Up?

Anyone on here also collect rare coins? Where do you feel the market is going to go long term? I'm 30 and have been collecting since I was 8 and have enjoyed it tremendously. Coin shops are still around, luckily, and seem to still be doing well but is this next generation not going to appreciate "The Hobby of Kings"?

I collected coins when I was a kid, I had (as I recall) quite a decent sized collection. And then I discovered boobs . I suspect my collection is still in my mothers basement somewhere. I should dig it out next time I visit.

Yeah she might complain....Until you find out something is worth big bucks. I avg gains of around 10% per year, I know it's not the 12% that mutual funds avg but hey not bad for a hobby. I just love the history of it and since I collect in high grades the beauty is great too. My wife has never had a problem with me buying more, luckily, but her hobby costs more than my car and coins combined lol.

My boss has one of the largest US paper currency collections in the world. Lots of neat stuff but no coins. It's currently on display at a museum in NYC. (I'm purposely being vague)

Just went through some coins I had since I was kid, found some interesting coins. Nothing crazy but still was worth a look, surprised at values listed for sale , Yea I know ebay prices are severely over the top but even with that a few more bucks then I had thought.
I have one or two I may want graded who do you use and how much does it actually cost.

I have a very large stamps collection, partially which was collected by my father when he was a kid. I need to dig it up again.

PCGS or NGC. I like NGC holders more but Pcgs is better liked by collectors. I never send any in but I think it's around $18 but will depend on the value and type. If you go to either of their sites it will show current value of the coin after being graded. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/united-states/

Paid for by cash so in theory you are right but I keep it all in the up and up. Nice thing is is the growth is untaxed until you sell.

What fund is averaging 12% yearly for you? I wish to invest in this fund.

That is the 30 yr avg for the s&p 500 mutual fund growth. 11.63% to be exact since inception in 1988. Some years are great and some just plain suck but over all it does okay. I'm in quite a few index funds my self along with PM's and other investments.

I have a somewhat big collection. I'd say about 200 coins or so. All packaged inside clear vinyl bags. We tried to sell them at a local event that bought coins and got offers 200 bucks for them. Some dated back to 1800 if not more

All depends on grades. Be careful about those bags, depending on what they're made of they can actually cause the PVC coin disease. Have you tried selling them on eBay or at an actual shop? What kind are they?

My father has been a Numismatist for over 45 years and I was into it some as a kid but for some reason I have never really been a collector. I do like looking and the history behind them.

I do have a small collection of coins related to soccer events, mostly as gifts from my father.

Hmm they might be some kind of Franklin Mint coins, that would make sense on the price you were offered. Unfortunately coins like those don't gain much value because they are not an actual gov mint and were made only for collectors. I could be wrong but that time frame and what you described would make sense.

I have a small bag of uncirculated pennies I got at the Denver Mint in the '70s. I think its super cool that I'm the only person to ever have touched them.

My dad collected silver coins back in the day and has around $5k in face value worth of coins. Another case of right move at the perfect time.

Hey that's pretty sweet about the pennies! Love going to the mint. Man he has a nice chunk of change, going for about 13 times face right now so $65k.
