Hey man, I'm an 2011 3.0i Z4 owner as well.
It has 168k km and I can say the following: - The engine is in mint condition (said by BMW, not me) - There is only one electrical malfunction is a pressure sensor in the rear left wheel - This applies to me as my car has a low-cost audio system (HiFi) - I am changing it today with a bavauto set (280$) Tip: - Have 255 wheels on the back, 225 on the front - best combo for this car from my point of view - The wind deflector is worth it, if you don't have it, get it. - Get the new android tablet upgrade if you don't have a navi screen, if you have the navi screen, get an apple carplay / android auto device so you can link your phone to the car. - Add parking sensors if you don't have them (these are a must, especially for a long-hood vehicle - if you've never driven one before) - If it's an automatic vehicle and you just bought the car you might want to do an oil change (if the car has > 50.000km) These are just my advices that I applied to my car, some might be wrong, if somebody knows better than me you should listen to him instead. |

BMW Specific problems:
- water pump will fail without warning - oil filter housing gasket will leak - valve cover gasket will leak - valve cover may crack - oil pan gasket will leak - assume any weird electrical issue, starting issue, etc is a weak battery Z4 specific problems - rear cargo cover may have a broken sensors/switches that prevent the top from working - wire harness in the hinge inside the cabin may break - hydraulic hose in the hinge inside the cabin may leak |

My front struts were leaking at 42K miles and it was $3500 to replace them. These are sensor struts (Maybe wrong term) tied into suspension electronics is why they are so expensive
If you start getting a bunch of error lights, replace the battery. You don't need BMW to do it if you get the Carly app to reset the battery
