Plug and Play Options?
Just curious. I just purchased my first Z4 and love it. It is a 2015 35i with an M package. There are options listed in the manual that I don't have on the car such as the heated steering wheel and heated seats. I see the spot where the button is supposed to go for the heated steering wheel as well as the seats. My question is, are the wires already run through to the steering wheel and seats so all I would have to do is buy the buttons and install it to make it work, or is it a lot more complicated and not worth it?
Thx. |

Dont know about BMW, but when I had an Evoque, all steering wheels had the heating element in them.
For cars who didnt have the option, all you needed to do was buy the correct clockspring and fit it to enable the heated wheel! |

It depends on the options purchased. On my '12 35is I had heated steering wheel, whereas with my current '14 35is I don't have the option. Both are M steering wheels.

The IS version has the M trim included (right?)
So my 2011 IS has the M wheel and I have heated steering wheel. |

My 2011 35i has M-sport and heated seats and steering wheel. The first question is whether the wiring harness already exists for the heated wheel and/or seats. I don't know if the harness is different but one way to figure that out might be to find out if the fuse box has those terminals wired (obviously with no fuse in place).
But your best bet would be to hit an E90 (3-series) forum and see if anyone has had the same questions and done a comparison. M-sport doesn't matter, IMHO. I think the question is, has anyone with an E90 figured out how to retrofit heated steering to their car. Chances are the cars are built the same way in regards to pre-wiring, et cetera. Filippo

I'm guessing then that the heated steering wheel is a part of the cold weather package, which includes the ski bag passthrough to the trunk. Does your current one have the cold weather package? Mind does.
