You get what you pay for though. It's a damn good car to live with.

It's a niche car.. And I'm glad of that, I see 1,3,5 series everywhere!

I just wish there were more aftermarket support for the zed. Like the higher volume cars, but that's wishful thinking.

It's retarded and it's going to be hard justifying the is label (and its price tag) when it's already outdated! Plus Scott26 confirmed we would get an M Perf version with the LCI...

So unless it's a prank preceding a happy surprise at the Geneva show, I can only think of one reason for such an inconsistent decision: BMW considered that the 35is just wasn't good enough to deserve the M Performance label and a Z4 M35i would likely have garnered too many negative reviews and potentially spoilt the image of the whole M Performance growing range... Maybe the tests showed that the 35is was being outperformed/ridiculed by the cheaper M135i hatch, therefore making a Z4 M35i look like a poor yet overpriced vehicle?! So at the last second they decided to pull out, not make the move and shamefully stick to the old lower-key is label so as to not attract too much spotlight and deceived high expectations.

What an embarrassing marketing strategy though.
Please remember the 4er Coupe will launch with further powertrain updates before any other "current" model. An M Performance 4er is also planned.
any further BMW models to share this engine will arrive afterwards.

I don't see your point. All M cars have been low volume sellers by design. And their built/performance/features justifies their price quite well.

The current Z4 is not at the same level at anything M for its price.

I love mine. For me its a perfect roadster. Love the hardtop when I need it its there and I wanted something small and fun to drive. I Love that there isn't too many on the road.

I was thinking of an m3 but thought to myself how fast can you really drive it?

I have a family but that's what my family SUV is used for.

May not work for most but it works for me.

As far as the new look. It's ok. Basically what every car maker does in the middle and in the end of a model to freshen and distinguish a newer model. But not enough for me to consider trading mine in.

M cars cater to a specific niche, as are Zs. Both are low volume, relatively high price vehicles that serve a specific purpose. Whether something is worth the price is a matter of personal opinion, and not everyone shares yours in this thread.

Then how do you explain that the 1M, having similar parts and track performance as your M3, yet, at least here in China, costs only half? And it even has the improved mpg figures of modern turbo-charged M-cars. As far as I am concerned it also comes with iDrive, bluetooth and what not...

No, I am teasing you, so please don't explain that. I can easily understand why you paid extra for your M3. It is so much more than just a car. And I also understand why other people select the 335i even they could easily afford the M3. I also know Porsche has been the most profitable car company in the world, and I know an LV bag is not worth what people pay for it. Yet I do not feel any need to call these products over-priced. Because it is not really my problem if they company selling those products makes a profit or not.

Right, and nothing M is anything like a roadster... or SUV, oh wait...

Anyway, what you are saying is basically that the M3 cabriolet is the right-priced or even under-priced alternative to the over-priced Z4?

So true. Having owned my M3 for over 10 years, I was use to a supreme level of handling performance, but man straight line mid 3 second 0-60 times of the tuned N54 Z4 is so wonderful too. I do look forward to next season ALMS to root for the Z4s as a proper sport car model opposed to the old M3 being the only modified 4 seater in the show. Also, I was shocked to see an $81k sticker on the Boxter S at the LA Auto show this year. Yikes! Nice car, but not $81k.....I'd buy an M3 first.

Wow

At least they could have fixed the vague steering fell issues by trying to reprogram the software to provide better feel and feed back. In my opinon that alone would have pumped life into the Z4 sales. Because it is a fast, good looking car lacking the typical feel and feed back associated with BMW sports cars.

... and still BMW needs to give $12,000 incentives to move the Z4.

Dude, this not a personal attack. The fact of the matter is that the Z4 has been pushed too far up market for a long time and the sales have shown that it did not work. The same happened with the M3 sales compared with the E46 M3 and it will get worse with the new M4.

Enjoy your Z4.

Where is this $12,000 incentive offer? I might like to take advantage

I can live without the 1% change to the headlights and side lamps.

But still no serious BMW Performance parts?

Agreed. I love the current version of the Z4sDrive35is but for the price, and given how well folks on this forum and others feel the Z4 is at taking long trips and grand touring, I wish the LCI refresh would have included the following additions at least as available options:

1. Adaptive Cruise Control
2. Heated AND Ventilated Seats (ideally with more adjustment in the headrest area)
3. Available full-color HUD
4. Higher-end premium audio system
5. BMW Performance brakes (stock units are a bit of an eye sore even while on dealer show room floor)
6. Backup camera with surround overhead peripheral view and responsive vector lines.
7. Lane departure warning
8. Turn signals in mirror housings

Some of these items such as number 1,6,7, and 8 come on far less expensive vehicles. I know, I know the zed is a driver's car, but given that it now has a hard top it does equally well as a semi-GTer or day to day driver, many of the features listed above could really add to the day to day drivability experience IMHO.

Finally, I was anticipating squared off LED Lighting units as well. I don't really care for the side accent metal elements BMW is adding/accentuating across their line either. Seems tinny and agree with others that this cheapens the car a bit. Hopefully it looks better in reality than in photos.

Oh yeah, one last thing. Going back to black-faced gauges in the "is" would be a good thing as more contrast is great. And could you kindly take the name out of the gauge as well? We seek important info there not marketing badge typography. Besides no logo there is needed as from what I can tell, you are reminded constantly that you are in a Z4sdrive35is by the sweet sounds accompanying your right foot movement.

I like the Hyper Orange paint, although I wish they'd made it a little bit more like the McLaren Volcano Orange, but it will be interesting to see what Hyper Orange looks like on the E89 on the road.

Not sure about the new side indicators though, I was hoping for something a little more stylish as an upgrade to the original white plastic indicators.
