Engine Loss of Power
Like some of you'all, I've just started to experience engine loss of power. Mine happens when I'm driving 40+ mph and accelerate fairly hard. Never from standstill or low speed, which is the same as some of you'all have noted in other posts. And I only have 7k on the car.
My problem is that this has happened only recently and maybe 5 times and I can't remember whether they all happened after the car had warmed up (I normally wouldn't hard accelerate if the engine wasn't warm). Anyone remember when their engine stumbling occurred, ie., warmed up or cold? It's at the dealer (it's a lease), and, of course, they said they couldn't reproduce it and there are no codes. They want me to come down and drive it with the tech, to show them the issue (well at least that's some progress from "we can't fix what we can't find.").

I had this issue on Z4 when it had around 70k miles.
Its a water pump issue and once replaced, I didnt face that error again. It may not be the same for you as it only has 7k miles on yours. O2 sensors, Ignition Coils, Exhaust Sensors etc are the things that generally triggers the engine loss of power message. And these messages come randomly once in a while. Hope they can replicate the issue and fix at dealership for u. Good luck. |

Took the shop foreman out for a drive for 30 minutes, and, of course, couldn't get the car to do it, no matter what I tried.
THEN, on my way home, not 5 miles from the dealership, it did it again...argh!!! The first time it happened it felt like the Traction Control engaging; this last time it felt like the transmission disengaged while it tried to decide what gear to go into when I pushed the accelerator down about 3/4 of the way. Now I've got to drive it around and try to figure out how to replicate the problem, so I can go back and show the service guys what's going on.

Something similar happened on my 2011 Z4 35i at around 6k Miles. I couldn't reproduce it and finally it errored at around 8k miles. It felt like throttle was interrupted or cut. Dealership found the cause to be the DSC sensor.

DSC error, eh? My first thought when it happened the first time was that it was traction control or rev limiter (used to hit that all the time in my E30 325e). Boy, I'd sure like to have that error light come on! It's actually dangerous, since it happens when I pull into traffic and accelerate...and then I just start coasting, while the car behind me thinks I'm going to accelerate to traffic speed. I'm thankful that I haven't gotten rear-ended yet, though they've come close and honked at me.
I still can't reproduce this power disengagement and haven't gotten a error light/message yet. A couple of us DCT owners are trying every scenario we can think of to get it to happen regularly. Talking to some others who have the same problem, which doesn't feel like engine loss of power, we all agree that it feels like...and one shop foreman agreed...that the DCT sometimes gets "confused" when it has to down shift 2 or more gears under acceleration, and it disengages and the car coasts. But only a couple of DCT owners have had the problem...??? Since mine also clunks hard when first going from Park to R or D, I'm thinking mine may be leaking...which I'm told would NOT show up on the garage floor because of the drip pan.
