Front + rear camera options?
Prod date: 2010-07-27
2011 z4 35is with iDrive and nav Vin E393911 Doesn't come with any PDC sensors or camera. Given that hood on z4 is so long, I would like to get a front + rear camera (sensors are not that important). What are the easiest ways to retrofit those? Option 1: Any OEM retrofit options Option 2: CIC aux TV input Option 3: some bimmertech or similar HDMI interface for connecting cameras Option 4: Wireless cameras that work with smartphones/tablets Does anyone have any experience with any of those?

I had a rear camera installed on ex-E89 (2011 35is). Forgot the details, but it required an expensive module (around $400 I believe) plus a wired camera. Installed professionally, cost amounted to around $900. It interfaced perfectly with the PDC as well. As soon as you engage reverse, the iDrive screen would change to a full size cam, with the PDC overlayed; once you change gears, screen returns to previous activity.
It was well worth it. |

Another company (I've not tried them, but may if I keep my E89) that has both front and rear cameras is:
https://www.modmynav.com/products/camera-kits/ The sensors are required, IMHO, because of the long nose, and work well, but cameras would be MUCH better. Has anyone had any experience with them?

I installed a backup camera in my iDriveless i28. I had to install a Chinese made android head unit with an 8.8” horizontal screen that would fit the dash. The back up camera ended up being close to useless. It has a 170 degree view and is tilted slightly downward. With the wide view and the wide screen, you see everything, but the guidelines provided by the headunit do not move as you turn and do not match where the car is or is going. So, you cannot drive in reverse with it. It helps me see if a baby or puppy is crawling under my wheels before I back up, but that is about it. I am looking for an option with accurate guidelines that I can reliably use in reverse, so if you find a good back up camera solution please post it.

Hardtop/Window/Mirror activation with FOB
I have a 2012 BMW Z4 (E89) that was manufactured November 2011. It has iDrive, Connecteddrive, Mdrive. The one thing I can not get it to do is lower/raise the top/windows with the fob, nor can I get the mirrors to park with the fob. I have the new Protool by Bimmerfest and modified the coding to active these features but to no success.
Anyone have any ideas? Thank you |

Hi all... I'm looking for suggestions regarding running wires for a back up camera. I installed the UniChip Smart Box to add CarPlay functionality to my stock navigation screen. This also includes capability to add a back up camera. I have hooked up a camera to ensure that the feature works (and, to my surprise, it does!). I have made it as far as the trunk with the wires but am unsure the best way to get the wires to come out near the license plate to minimize exposed external wires. I can easily tuck the wires under the floor boards to get to the back of the trunk, but from there I'm not sure what the path of least resistance is.
Any thoughts? I know some back up cameras require getting power from one of the wires from a reverse light. This system does not. |
