fuel level sender

Has anyone had any issues with the fuel level sender on the e89?

My fuel level seems incorrect. It was reading empty, filled it right up (only got 10 litres in), and now its reading 3/4. There's a code for faulty fuel level sender.

I can pick up a replacement part pretty easily, but not sure how to fit. When I've previously replaced a replaced a fuel gauge/pump its been under the rear seats.

Is there access from the inside rear of the car? Or does the tank need dropping?

From the images I've seen online, the tank also looks like it will need to be empty as the pump is quite low
