Just a guess - aerodynamics in the wet, ummm maybe that would be hydrodynamics. They help prevent water shedding rearward off the floor pan from flooding the rear tread just as its about to make contact with the pavement. if the treads are flooded there will be nowhere for the water to go and the rear tires would be more susectable to hrdroplanning.

Please put on the pics when installed. Very interested to see the install of color coded flaps.

Not at the moment, but I will see if I can get more shots later today/weekend.

Thanks for the honest opinions.

Here are a couple more photos from ///MPACT of the Mud Guards. I personally like the look of them. Let me know what you think.

The color matching definitely helps, but I'm still against the look. And I'm not sure what it accomplished by these guards. I have never seen damage to the paint behind the rear wheel. Rather, the paint on the skirt immediately in front of the rear wheel is what gets blasted from the front wheel,.

I'm unsure on the colour coding as it makes them a tad too prominent, I think standard less so,

So glad I have mine fitted as the local council are doing the roads with tar and lashings of chippings

The damage will be under the floorpan behind the front wheels where your lovely paintwork will get chipped away, the front flaps will simply eliminate this

Tim.

Tim, I've owned 3 BMW's and I've never seen any paint damage immediately behind the front wheels. I'm wondering if you're addressing a problem that doesn't exist.

You must have been lucky, as when I was looking for a Z3 everyone had chipping to some extent behind the front wheels, some worse than others to the extent the protective coating was peeling and rust setting in. Perhaps US rocks are soft and cuddly

Tim.

Must be. My WRX spent some time in the gravel and didn't have damage in the area you are protecting.

I've put BMWs into gravel run off (whoops...) and still ok

Rock guards

I wanted to resurect this thread because I'm getting a lot of questions about rock guards lately. What do you guys think of this? I found this on the web and thought it didn't look too bad.

1) Has anyone put mud guards/flaps on the z4? If yes, you mind sending me a pic of how it would look like. I hurt quite a few people said it doesn't look nice on a roadster. The only reason I am doing it - is for paint protection! But, still debating if I should put it or not cause it's like $180 for both the front and back.

2) I notice in my trunk under carpit where the bactery is, there is this bag that contains a screw driver and a medal thing for towing.(please see attached picture) But the bag has two empty spots, I was wondering if I am missing something. Do you guys have these, or is there other things in the car I am supposed to have?

Thanks for any reply in advance.
1) Mud guards on a Z4 can be a practical choice for paint protection, though opinions on aesthetics may vary. If you prioritize safeguarding the paint, consider checking online forums or social media groups for Z4 owners who have installed mud guards. This way, you can see real-life examples and gather insights from the community before making a decision.

2) The bag in your trunk containing a screwdriver and towing tool is standard. The empty spots may be designed for additional tools that are not included in the standard toolkit. If you're curious about what should be included, consult your Z4's manual or contact the dealership for clarification. It's always good to have a complete toolkit for any unexpected situations.
