window issue on 2011 e89

I'm experiencing an odd behavior.

When I use the 'all windows' button to put my windows up, one of either the driver or passenger windows, goes all the way up and then starts coming back down. Sometimes it's the driver side, sometimes it's the passenger side.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is there self fix or does this justify a trip to the dealer?

I had this problem on my 2009 model. The dealer installed a new window control module. No problem since. The dealer will fix under warranty.

Interesting...I've noticed this same thing a few times over the last 3 years, but it doesn't repeat itself; ie, if I push the switch a second time, it works perfect. I always assume I may have done something wrong , so I have never even thought to bring it up to the dealer under warranty.....It will be interesting to see if this is a common issue....

The issue is a result of the finger pinch mechanism. With your car, the rear and front windows rise at the same time and the front window detects resistance from the rear just when they are fully closing. That makes the front window lower. The fix is the module referred to above. It will create a lag so that the rear window starts to rise a second after the front.

Excellent information. I'll contact the dealer and see what happens.

i have this issue. took it to the dealer and they say they reset the module, problem not solved. I don't bother with the dealer now since all they ever do is waste my time.

They didn't reset the module. They reinitialized the windows. The module has to be installed if yo don't have it. If you do, you shouldn't have this problem.

They installed the new module in my car about 18 months ago. I still get dancing windows about 5% of the time, but its much better than it was.

I had this on all of my bmw verts. 09 e93 335i, 09 e89 35i, 11 e89 Z35i, and 11 e93 m3.

The way I fixed it? Got a smarttop lol

since the dealer couldn't reproduce the problem, they kept brushing it off

Had the same problem with my '09. Took it to the dealer last year and was told they could not reproduce the problem and therefore could not provide a fix, eventhough there is a service bulletin for the condition.

Took my car for an oil change this summer and mentioned the problem again. This time they fixed it:

Replace junction box for windows (service bulletin 51 10 11)

Good information. I was just in my car cursing this very condition last night. Will talk to the dealer about it next time I'm in for service.
