Fuel consumption

I have about 200,000 hard miles on my 2007 Z4 and I'm starting to think really hard about my next car. I've spotted one or more E89 335si that have my interest but I'm a little worried about the hi-way fuel milage. I have a long interstate commute and I can't justify anything that gets the 24mpg this car is rated at. Is thus rating for real? I can't believe a direct injection 3 liter burning that much fuel on a freeway.

The newer N55 based cars like the M240 or M235 are rated over 30. Just don't like their looks and if I am going to spend that much on my next car it will need to have adaptive cruise control, preferably all speed.

Thanks in advance.

On the highway I'll get around 28mpg depending on speeds; I've had it hit 30 on occasion.

My M-sport 2014 535d puts down 320hp and 500 ft lbs of torque. Fuel Consumption is 38mpg on the info display, commuting. AC Schnitzer springs and H&R sway bars fixed the boat-sized feel of the 5er. The diesel doesn't sound like my N54, nor does it beg me to step on the throttle. But commute-wise, that's a plus - I don't need more tickets. And when I do step on it, the thing takes off.

If you are after MPG, BMW diesels are awesome. Plenty of them in the 3er size ... just sayin' ...

Filippo

p.s. My E89 gets about 9-10mpg. Hard to keep the foot out of it, and with all the tune mojo it loves its fuel!

Ok so I made the leap, after 205,000 miles I traded in my E85 for a Z4 35is.

First trip to the office with the correct tire pressures yielded 27.0 mpg. I need to retrain my right foot but it will work out fine.

Just takes some driver adaptation as this car has so much power at low RPMs. My older N52 could be pushed hard at 2,000 RPMs and nothing would happen. This thing will drink like a drunken sailor at those speeds.

All good as I like to play and I understand the rules.

Side note - I'm working in DC now and due to upgrades at Hertz - I'm driving a MB SLC300 this week - wow, some of the luxury features we are missing.....

Care to share what are some of the luxury features that are missing?

I did test-drove the SLC before but didn't quite fell for it. I remember the door being heavy to swing. Apart from the non-engaging drive.

This is a serious question?! My 2011 Z4 has bluetooth that doesn't even work with audio! A piece of shit Toyota Corolla with no options has bluetooth audio. BMW is technology has lots of issues. My 2014 535d has so many mediocre technology issues its not even funny. They should call it, "dis"Connected Drive.

I am not in the least bit surprised the Benz is well better.

Electric steering wheel up and down - like I had in my e38. Neck warmers (though it hits me mid shoulders). Radio sounds a ton better, just overall more "upmarket" feel. Roof latch is hidden in center console - nicer than a button I have to reach for. Seats are more comfortable.

But....

I'm 6-3 280'ish - this is tighter than the z4, central column is farther into my right leg space. Door sill is harder to get over with leg. Less trunk space. Not as much fun - but if I were 5-4-5-10 140 -180 lbs - this would be a perfect fit. Doors are heavy - but I equate that to safety.

I actually cross-shopped the SL550 when I bought my z, and my head hit the roof - the only reason I didn't get one.

And of course I only had the top down 2 hrs first night - snowing now.....

Sure, but not sure what your question has to do with the subject. My point is that BMW is sorely lacking in the technology integration department, and that seems to be obvious, which is why I asked if your question was actually serious.

As for engaging drive, that's why I buy BMW ... I just put up with the technology mess.

Ok. Although your comment is rather irrelevant and somewhat.... uninvited.

Enjoy your ride.

Hey guys, I would like to ask you that my 2014 z4 20i rated around 12-13 lt/100km daily (urban)drive (not aggressive drive, comfort mode) it seems too much for me. Could it be any problem with my car and what could cause it? Thanks
