My friend picks up his STI tonight

One of my associates here is single, not yet 30 years old, and has sold his '03 WRX. I tried to get him to love a Bimmer, but the test drive at another dealership went poorly.

Anyway, tonight he gets his brand new Sti, god, the guy is quivering he's so excited. I'm excited for him, he's a good guy and a down to earth car crazy enthusiast.

Honestly, I'm a bit jealous, the STi appears to be the real thing. But I don't think it's really my style (an M3 would suit me better), and I can't afford every car on the planet.

I will enjoy going for a ride with him in it.

Here is the kicker. My car cost 46k. His will cost 47k. That is expensive for a Subaru....but it's an STi.

But wait, there's more!!


His insurance will be $1700/year!!!! Mine is $950!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it's no where near BMW's interior quality, however, Subaru's president stated that he wants to eventually make the STi like the M3.

The first thing they got to do is a massive makeover. Not to mention make it RWD.

Air bags, BMW assist, BMW's version of Lo-Jack and Run Flats.

All make a huge difference to lower your insurance.

Plus the Sti and and Mitsu Evo are awesome performance cars, but they're just soooo BUTT!

You have a very beautifully engineered vehicle outside with the performance.

I love the STI so much. I think the interior is really. It's sporty but still not cheap feeling and I love the blue alcantra. I don't understand why the STI costs more than a 325xi series there though. Is it that the STI is overpriced there, the 3 series is cheaper there, or a mixture of both?

its completely different classes of cars. but if you didnt want the luxury the STI should be a blast nice car but that damn wing...ugh. to each his own i guess. gotta love those lil rally cars with awd and big turbos. cant wait for the next gen evo, looks very promising. but holy geeze id never pay $47 g's for it though. out of curiosty what the avg. price of a sport sedan there? all are cars just about that much or is it just certain models?

It lists in Canada for almost 49cdn. Cars are more expensive here than the US.

My 325xi, has paint, Step and Ad. Xenons, or the base price would have been 43. It was 46 and change after my discount.

My friend got a 2% discount, as did I. So yeah, with an STi you're paying for all the performance goodies, and of course, we all agree here, not much else.

It's a completely different type of car owner.

Agreed on why insurance is more costly for his car.

I didn't mention that I insure my X5, my 325, and my horse trailer, and I'm 15 years older than my friend with a near perfect record, so I believe that mitigates the cost as well.

He actually likes a noisy exhaust, the instant power, the whole Subie thing. His WRX had been modified extensively before he stripped all the mods and sold it.

It's funny, most of the STi drivers I see around here are guys in their fifties, I find that curious. I really don't think that as much fun as it would be, I would be cuaght dead or alive owning one as a daily driver....I have become a snob I guess.

In the US, MSRP is $32,800 for the 325xi and MSRP is $32,995 for the STI but the STI comes with everything standard.

That's amazing....at an exchange rate of 1.11 that makes for a 36000 dollar car...they're both 10-12k more here....Excuse me while I go and throw up out back!

yeah but base salary for like business jobs out of college here is around $40k-$50k. what about there?

So he got his car last Thursday, and we went out for a spin just now...

WOW, what a car. And since he is only at 500kms, he won't go over 4000rpm, and it was stil a compelling ride. We went up over Mont Royal, which has some nice curves - which he took at double their posted limit...me and my friend in the back were grinning like mad. The cornering is flat and predictable. Even over bumps in the curve it was ok. I guess I can say that because of this monster engine your foot pretty much controls every little nuance of the driving experience. The straight line takeoff is great, the torque is meaty....it's even half-decent inside. It's got Auto Climate, suede covered sport seats, leather steering wheel, and nice simple gauges. We rode with the windows open, to hear the engine, so I don't know how well the car is sound insulated otherwise. There is even a little button to spray the intercooler with if it's too hot out.

The Xenon lights are manually adjustable, which is cool since it's a rally car, as opposed to my auto adjusting xenons.

I'm happy for him, since going from a modified WRX to an STi is like going from a 330i sport to an M3. Quantam leap, and worth every penny.

I love Subaru, I was contemplating on getting a Legacy GT, but they claimed u couldnt get the manual with Navi so I went with the 325i. the STI is a wonderful car, Congrats to your friend!

Younghov, the only manual Leggie that you can get with Nav is the Spec B.
