2022 Lexus NX leaked

https://www.motor1.com/news/490243/2...-leaked-video/

Quote:
Someone is getting fired.
[UPDATE] The video has been taken down.

It was only about a month ago when the new Lexus NX was caught testing for the first time, and to our surprise, the camouflage is all gone now. Someone accidentally (or not) published what looks like an official video of the luxury crossover on YouTube, revealing the revamped NX in full. The clip is no longer available on the video hosting platform, but a Redditor acted quickly and uploaded it on Streamable where it’s still available at the moment of writing.

Judging by the German license plate, the leak might originate from Europe, and it shows the NX 200, presumably the entry-level variant. Oddly enough, the end of the video says “NX 350h” before referring to an upcoming 450h+ variant with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. All that really matters is the styling has now leaked in full.

The exterior appearance is not a great departure from the current model, but there are some changes worth mentioning. The LED daytime running lights are now integrated into the main headlights to enable a cleaner look of the front end. The spindle grille is still very much on the large side and boasts a new pattern with vertical ornaments.

The telltale sign we’re looking at the second generation is at the back where the NX is the latest model to get an LED light bar. It also appears to have a pair of faux exhaust tips and there’s a good chance those vertical air vents are also just for show. Overall, Lexus has sharpened up the design here and there without straying too far from the familiar formula.

It’s a different story on the inside where the 2022 NX has a significantly revamped appearance. For starters, it ditches the much-criticized touchpad and comes with a large touchscreen. There are separate conventional controls for the dual-zone climate settings, along with a rotary knob for the driving modes. We’re also noticing a generously sized wireless charging pad, a fully digital driver’s display, a more compact gear lever, a head-up display, new switchgear, and no more analog clock.

Curiously, even though the exterior badge clearly says NX 200, we can’t help but notice there’s an EV mode button between the seats, so maybe this is the NX 350h after all as mentioned at the end of the video. As for the PHEV variant, it is believed it will adopt the powertrain from the Toyota RAV4 Prime, but nothing is official yet.

With the new NX expected for the 2022 model year, the world premiere could take place in the coming months. Perhaps Lexus will move the premiere forward since the cat is pretty much out of the bag now.

I'd really like to meet the person excited about such a forgettable car.

Oh well all aboard the EV train.

Is there ANY excitement for majority of cross-overs today?
At least this looks good without alienating its supporters, and of all the plug in hybrids available, this will likely still work 10 years later.

Is this an all new generation? Or just another refresh on the already past its expiration date model? Can't really tell from the exterior.

Thank god they finally dropped the awful mouse pad infotainment.

I actually wasn't expecting a totally new model (although this was more of redesign than I expected - I thought it was going to get the lipstick on a pig interior treatment like the IS). In all honesty, I'm betting that Toyota is busy in the background with the development of a full on EV wave to come, and biding their time in between. Why develop something from the ground up when you know your entire lineup is going to a far different platform in the years to come. Not to mention these will still sell, sell, sell.

They actually wouldn't have to do much considering a new RAV4 was already built which they usually base their NX on. But like you said, this will sell anyways.

I assumed that this is built on the TNGA platform that the new RAV4 is on. No? TNGA is a stopgap before the skateboard electric platform is finalized by Toyota, that every one of their future vehicles will be built on. TNGA-E?

I assume so, although I still can't tell how "new" of a vehicle this is, or whether its an extensive facelift. I was mainly saying that it wouldn't be much of "from the ground up" type work for Lexus since its mainly based on an already existing Toyota vehicle.

Just read that this will use the same powertrain as the RAV4 Prime which is a pretty impressive vehicle. This will definitely be a great seller for Lexus, and the Plug-In Hybrid provides many benefits on top of Lexus quality and reliable.

Nice SUV except the infotainment screen is too small. At this price I would expect at least a 42" OLED display.

But yes, I expect Toyota will also create (or adopt via partnerships) at least one true BEV-only architecture in the next five years as well.

There's clearly a lot of momentum for PHEVs for at least the next five to ten years, so I agree with you that sticking with the TNGA platform makes sense for those products including this new NX. It's already developed and it will get the job done quite nicely.

I actually don't mind this one to be honest. At least it's horizontal and in your line of sight, vs vertical and low like Tesla and MB. Not to mention this car still has physical HVAC controls. This certainly beats Lexus' old infotainment with the touchpad.

I overall like it to be honest. I actually wished Toyota would offer more PHEV's, as they would make pretty good DD's.

It looks like only the temperature is physical. Everything else from fan to seat heaters are in the infotainment.

Dang, you're right. Kind of annoying but I could live with it, since I usually just change the temp when I'm on the move most of the time.

As a prior NX owner, I wholeheartedly agree with this.

As much as I hate the big screen trend, the mouse pad was dreadful.

It's clearly an evolutionary design. Not a big deal imo, tons of other automakers do it as well.

1st vs 2nd gen

I'm surprised at how conservative Lexus was with the exterior design in making changes compared to the first generation. Usually they are quite the opposite. Even the new IS received more of a visual overhaul and that was just a facelift on the existing generation not even a whole new car.

However, I think between this and the new IS Lexus is really hitting their groove and figured out how to polish up their polarizing design language. I for one love this redesign along with the IS 500 specifically. For those who dislike it, I understand, but in my opinion this redesign is a home run as opposed to Cadillac, which in my opinion has been trying to perfect their new age design language since the original CTS and just never quite got there. There's always a detail or three that make it look boring, lame, or jarring to me. I think they've executed it better with the SUV and CTS-V wagon moreso than the sedans though.
