Cardio vs Circuit Training

I've heard opinions one way or the other, but I'm not sure which are true and which are "Water cooler" discussion.

Which is generally better for losing weight, improving health, or is it good to do both? What percentage of both?

I've lost weight w/o doing cardio. I adjusted my diet (the most important thing) and started lifting a lot heavier than I used to. I started with the stronglifts.com website and started looking at intermittent fasting (Brad Pilon, Martin Berkhan). I've also starting reading stuff by Lyle McDonald.

Circuit training is tougher, but you won't be as bored and you might see some strength gains (especially once you are able to add a little more weight on subsequent workouts).

I've lost fat by dieting alone. I've lost fat by weight training alone. I've lost fat by running alone. I've lost fat by dieting and running. I've lost fat by dieting and weight training. I've lost fat by dieting, running and weight training.

What I know is that 90% of fat loss is WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR PIEHOLE.

I've actually noticed some improved strength gains by doing 20 minutes (not including cool down) of HIIT right after lifting. Maybe not relevant to your question but just throwing that out there.

Yeah, I've made the commitment to get rid of all snacks within my office except for coffee and water.

True circuit training (no rest between exercises) is a form of cardio. IMO, if you had to choose between "traditional" cardio (e.g., running, eliptical, bike, etc.) and circuit training you should choose circuit training because it will not only get your heart rate up but, to some degree, also build lean muscle mass. In real life, you should have a program that incorporates some form of resistance training (not necessarily circuits) with some form of cardio and a healthy diet. It's up to you to experiment and figure out what works best for you.

What do you mean by losing weight? Water mass? If by water mass then just stop taking taking anything that contains sodium. If you want to lose fat. Cut your calories 500 calories a day. One pound of fat is roughly3500 calories. At 500 calories a day you will lose 1 pound of TRUE fat not water weight per week.

Overall gain, I would do circuit training that involves HIIT and plyo exercises.

beat me to it, almost verbatim.

the biggest point, and everyone has hit on it is DIET. one thing i read on the BB forums has stuck with me:

you can't outwork a bad diet.

now to which is better...I prefer circuits or HIIT rather than just running. I HATE running. but to each their own.

Running gets boring to me. If take a jog and see a slight incline, I'll try to sprint and then pace myself again to recover.
