Like that tray without the cupholders a lot! Anyone know a UK dealer who would be willing to offer a fair price via PayPal and ship to USA? Don't think there should be any VAT for export sales.

I like that idea too. I use the external cup holder and the netting holds a bottled water for the passenger. No need for the under-armrest ones.

We find one of the armrest cupholder useful when both me and the wife are in the car and each need our cups held. The other armrest cupholder is a permanent place to store coins. I pull the clip-in cupholder out when the passenger is taller than 5'3", so they have extra thigh room. Last edited by BlueZ4AZ; 07-27-2011 at 05:34 PM.. |

Not sure. I have a US spec left hand drive. I just wanted to replace the center console tray with the useless-to-me cup holders with the other console.

Just needed to lift up the rubber inserts, undo 4 Torx screws, lift out tray/cup holder and replace with new unit, reinsert 4 screws. 5 mins max. Love this- much better use of storage space! Phone pics, but you get the idea.

Euro Center Console Tray
Are you absolutely certain the part number for the tray is 51169181218? Maybe I'm interpreting it wrongly in the following diagram and description, but the part number you referenced seems to be one designed for a mobile phone - not a plain tray. I would have thought the correct number would be 51169181229.
Edited to add: The more I've subsequently studied the actual parts link http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...18&hg=51&fg=35 the more I'm wondering if the original number 51169181218 given is, in fact, correct. The color coding for the items in the descriptions is throwing me. I'm in the process of making an arrangement to order this tray and mat from a supplier in the UK and want to be certain I'm asking for the right thing. Thanks for your help! Ed

Folks- I need some help. I'm midway through this process and got stuck. I was able to remove the US cupholder/snap in and I pulled the wires from the motherboard. But now I don't know what to do with the wires. The European console won't fit on top of them. One of the wires has two prongs at the end at a right angle, so I can't push them down. Photos below.
What have other folks done here? At this point, I've made an appt at the dealer to finish the install because I don't want to cut the wires and I'm at a loss to how to get that big one out of the way to get the Euro tray in. thanks, Laine

I isolated the unprotected ends with some tape, put the whole "package" in a small plastic bag and finally simply but carefully tucked it through the hole in the bottom. This is, as far as I have read from different forums, a common solution for doing this on the E89.
I will never have use for these wires as they pretty much represent outdated technology, meaning that they could be cut at the plastic connector, instead of leaving this messy collection of redundant connectors on place, A much cleaner solution would most probably be to disconnect the harness somewhere up front, which I have seen to be done on other models. Here I am not sure exactly where the connecting point on the E89 is, been thinking of looking beneath the center console (the one surrounding the gear lever et c). Has anyone done this, is it possible to disconnect the phone cables at the other end? Quote:

Do a search for my documentation of this - there is room to tuck this under the console - as I've only been able to chase this about a foot and no connector found.

Ok, thanks, have had this tucked under the console for a few years and will not waste time by disassembling anything for no reason.

I fitted the oddments tray that I bought off eBay today. When it came to deal with the wires, I just tucked them into the square hole at the bottom of the console. The tray itself along with the rubber mat came from Eastern Europe (via eBay) and took about 2 weeks to arrive. The four screws were the same screws that were used to hold the original cup holder/phone console in place.
