Ha! Guess that would have made you hesitate before looking at the link to my "little tool"

So, it seems to me that rather than tuck in these wires, they can be disconnected easily? This is what the part looks like, but where under the console do they connect?

And how hard is it to lift up the console? Can't be that hard I bet.

Even though it is very likely that I am going to purchase this leasing Z4, I do not want to damage it.

Lurcher,
what would your solution when you and your wife have a drink from starbucks?

Would like to confirm the order number for the Tray as well:
Is it
51169181229
or
51169181218
Just reviving this thread, having recently bought a nice Z4 and discovering the space under the armrest is filled with pretty useless things!

Many thanks to Lurcher - I followed your clear instructions & everything came out a treat. Pretty easy actually. The part number for the proper oddments tray is 51169181218. Bought mine from eBay.

Hope this helps others.

Glad to have the storage tray. I must say it is a much better option than having the 2 cup holders + snap-in adapter.

Do you have a part number for the tray?

I have the version with the 2 cup holders and the smaller tray.

I like it.

do you have a part number for that one? So this is a small tray area instead of the phone setup, correct?

I found a tray and rubber matt on eBay for $55 shipped from Europe. The only thing I couldn’t find were the screws, but I imagine I can find the appropriate metric screws at the hardware store.

There appears to be a couple of part numbers. One is for a setup that includes a smartphone, and the other for a setup that didn’t come with smartphone setup. I suspect either will work if we are tearing out the smartphone connector.

Going to do this too. Ordered the tray and mat from ebay. They're coming from Europe, Latvia, I think. Also found a link for the screws:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...h/07147122390/

So this will probably happen in mid/end of Sept when the ebay stuff arrives.

I grabbed the screw number from this diagram:

Got my oddments tray delivered today, just got to pop it in. Part no. 5116 918 1218. Strange there appears to be two different numbers for the same bit. Oh well...

I ordered the same part as you off eBay. Not sure what the differences are between the two part numbers.

Help Needed!

I'm in the process of removing the US center console with the phone snap in and cupholders to replace it with the Euro one and I've hit an impasse.

I was able to remove everything and I pulled the wires from the motherboard, but now I don't know what to do with the wires. The European console won't fit on top of them. One of the wires has two prongs at the end at a right angle, so I can't push them down. Photos below.

What have other folks done here?

thanks,
Laine

Just replied to your private message Laine. Just lift the console up and you can find room underneath. Tape them up first so nothing shorts. If you google console removal you should find help.

I appreciate the links. Very helpful! Note, you don't need to buy new screws, the exiting screws can be reused perfectly.

Ok, so the install was super easy. Took 5 minutes (being careful).

Parts / Tools:

• 51169181218 (tray) [purchased from Lithuanian via ebay]
• 51169174845 (rubber mat) [purchased from Lithuanian via ebay]
• trim removal tool
• T20 screwdriver head

Instructions:

• Use a trim removal tool to pull up the corners of the three rubber mats - in order to remove them - and to expose the 4 screws holding the tray in place. The mats are fit in there pretty snug. While you are using the trim tool to expose the edge of the mat, you'll need to also push back one or two of the cup holder "buttons" in order to get the mats under the cup holders out.

• Use a T20 screwdriver head to remove the screws.

• Pull out the old tray.

• Put in the new oddments tray.

• Put the screws back.

• Put your new rubber mat down.

That's it!

Notes: you do not need to buy new screws, the existing screws work perfectly.

I’d have to say that I use the oddments tray much more than my woefully outdated phone cradle. Though I must say I had a little anxiety permanently removing what was originally an expensive add-on electronic component.
