What should I get? Z4 35iS Vs. CaymanS PDK
Planning to be getting either of em end of this week.
just couldn't make up my mind. here's little info about the cars: 2011 Z4 Sdrive 35is all options w/o park distance 6924mi 52000 out the door price 2009 Cayman S No heated seat PDK Sport chrono pkg 16641mi 52000 also out the door price I like Z4's sporty look more but somehow it looks a little bit 'ricey'(do u guys agree with this?) and I like about the 'M' looks on the door pannel wheels steering wheels ...etc. My only pros about cayman is that I hav heard thousands of times PDK is thing of perfection. the only thing I dont like about Cayman is it is not that much of a 'looker' or 'head turner' compared to Z4. what do u think about this? Oh,,by the way my previous car was G35 coupe |

I test drove a Cayman base model before I purchased my Z4 30i. I liked the car but the decision was made due to the difference in comfort of driving. I'm about 5' 11 and I'm on the thin side but Cayman's seat interfered with my shoulders. In addition, this car needs a lot more energy in driving than Z4. May give you more fun as well, though. I decided to get Z4 since I'm using this as a daily driver and I didn't want to torture myself after hard day's work. People may say Cayman is more of a real sports car but you have to think about practicality when you're making the decision.

This kind of answer from someone on a Z4 forum might come as a complete and utter shock to one and all.
Get the Z4 ..are you seriously asking a large group of Z4 owners if we all think our car looks "ricey"? Last edited by BlueZ4AZ; 01-12-2011 at 02:52 PM.. |

between those choices id get neither. i need to have a manual transmission in my sports car, personally. the flappy paddle thing is a little girly IMHO.

in that case, i would recommend the Mazda Miata to the OP. (with an automatic transmission of course.)

The Z4 is a more all-around car. It's not as sharp as a Porsche but it's much more comfortable. My main complaint about the Cayman S (I had one before the Z4) is the noise from the engine at cruise speed on the highway (a central engine in a small car means you actually sit on the engine) |

How can one compare a roadster to a coupe?
Perhaps you should get a Boxster, which is basically a convertible Cayman for less money...

I am a big if not huge fan of Porsches... I love these cars, how they handle, they look, the quality etc...
BUT, My last car was an E93 and my new one is a Z4... I test drove both the cayman S and the Z4. The CS handles better, listen more precisely to what you are telling her... The Z4 is a beauty, soft when you want to caress her and handles pretty well when you want to ride her... And honestly how many days out of a 365 days you are on a track or racing on the rocky mountains??? Hint: get the Z4... |

seeing as you're going to pay the same money for both, i would buy the newer one with less miles. the porsche is definitely more 'sporty' but in real life, are you planning to clip the apex of every single turn?
both cars are extremely appealing. before i bought my z4, i was about to put down a deposit for a Boxster s, but after sitting in both, i felt like the z4 gives you back more for your money, it's just the right mix of understated elegance, technology, sportiness, and the fact that you have a metal folding roof is simply amazing. Also, the boxster/cayman are about to be revised with the new models coming out so the resale value would probably be on the z4's side in this case. finally, some might not agree, but whenever i happen to be on a traffic light next to any other car (i live in Dubai and we have nooooo shortage of fancy cars), i'm happy to say that yours truly turns the most heads! PS - if you're gonna get a Porsche, get the 911, nothing else. |

I also had a Cayman S prior to the Z4. They are two very different cars. The cayman is a track monster with amazing handling but rides extremely stiff. The z4 is a convertible cruiser with lots of torque and a more comfortable ride. I think both look great and will definitely turn heads. Drive both and buy what you like the most.
