price for the headlights seems quite low (ie you got a deal). Where did you buy them?

This is very interesting. Can you give us a break down of the parts needed as I'd read it needs all sorts of modules etc?

Did you swap the headlights only or did you swap the Cable, etc. too? Since the retrofit kit available requires next to the LCI headlights those components as well:

-- Nachrstkabelsatz Scheinwerfer LCI 1 03/2013 61122348129
-- Steuergert Xenon-Licht 2 03/2013 63127296090
-- LED Hauptlichtmodul 2 03/2013 63117342174
-- Satz LED Module 2 03/2013 63117348935
-- Linsenschraube mit Bund M4X14 30 03/2013 46637659479

Just performed the retrofit. Did't need any special parts excepts the complete headlights (Xenon with AKL)

But it did need some coding...

Now in possesion of the only LCI Space Grey in the world(?)

During a ride for charity:

yeah it is not cost effective. Just spend the $3000 on the trade in.

Thirdly, they no longer make Atacama Yellow!

Do you have the part # for the headlight assembly? Is it the same as the ones posted in the earlier posts? I was under the impression from the discussion that a "retrofit harness" was required as well.

Nor Space Grey...

You can find the partnumbers on http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E8...ing/headlight/

I needed the AKL because I already had AKL in the pre-LCI units...

No harness needed...Mountings/wiring connectors are the same. (mounted them myself)

I've decided to keep my Z4. I'm now interested in retrofitting the LCI headlights. What is AKL? I have a 2010 Z4, does that require AKL?

AKL means Adaptive bi-xenons. To my understanding, all US cars have adaptive bi-xenon standard (therefore AKL).

However, in Europe they have an option to have bi-xenon without the adaptive function so that is why there are 2 versions of the headlight.

I am interested in this as well but still haven't had any confirmation from those who's done it what parts are actually necessary and what was done, so I am holding off.

Flpnout, if you do get a chance to get it and it works, please do post back with results and maybe a DIY

By the way, good to see you back on here!

Order the headlights. Local BMW dealership will install them for me. I'll keep you all posted.

That was fast.

Did you just order the headlight assembly/housing
PN#:
63127348953
63127348954

or did you buy other components as well (e.g. ballast, modules, etc.)

Do keep us posted

I purchased the two part numbers you listed along with a pair of new style side turn signals. 👍 I figured it's time for my z4's yearly update. 😁
