Rear Dash Cam In License Plate Light Bracket?

So following @DavesZed fantastic tutorial videos, I've implemented the Android Auto Nav Screen + Wireless CarPlay + Rear Backup Sensors + Rear Backup Camera. I'm really very pleased.

I'm looking for a creative way to put in a rear dashcam. I do not like the "rear" dashcams which are at the front windscreen - but point backwards. I'd rather not mount the rear dashcam to the rollbars. Mounting to the rear windscreen in the retracting hardtop isn't a good idea.

The rear dashcam for this setup:

looks a lot like the backup camera for the license plate light bracket:

I wonder if I could swap out a backup cam for a dashcam and install this in the other license plate light bracket.

Then I could theoretically run the USB cable along the same path as the rear backup cam cables - to mate with the front backup cam.

Has anyone tried this? Do you think it could work?

Looks like I could potentially get the bracket without the rear backup cam:

Hi bud, firstly thank you I'm glad it's been of use to you

I see where you are coming from not wanting to mount to the roll hoops, which is what I did BUT mounting to the outside of the car may present other problems.
Road dirt!!
Now I have the reversing camera mounted to the number (licence) plate hole on mine (I'm about to change it to a plate surround type instead) and unless it's been perfect weather then the slightest speck of road dirt and it is sucked in and around the back of the car, thus getting on the lens. Now as a reversing camera you can get around this as you have mirrors but as a rear dashcam then you want this to be clear all the time and not worry about it being dirty.
Just a thought

I've attached a couple of my rear views to show you the coverage from the hoop position. In the one showing the rain, just think that if you had the camera on the outside then those raindrops would be directly on the lens, at least with it only being on the rear screen then you stand a chance of seeing something if you needed to. I appreciate that it probably never rains where you are!!
