Navigation: Colours and Night Mode
Either i'm being really stupid and missing the obvious or the navigation screen isn't behaving as it should.
INFO: I am in the UK and have UK and euro maps loaded. If i have the navigation screen up as a full screen display of the map, the map colour is generally a very grey colour. The only colour on the map seems to be the road numbering labels(M5, M4, A30, A303 etc). When i go in to the settings and tick the option for Night mode, nothing happens. The map remains the very washed out grey colour. But..... If i split the screen so the map is displayed on the right hand side (the smaller half if you like) the map is full colour (different classes of roads are different colours, rural areas are green etc). When i then select night mode, the map changes to a black background and roads are red which seems correct. So my questions are.... 1) Should my main map be more colourful along the lines of the split screen map? 2) Should I be able to select 'night mode' so it is mostly black in colour for the main navigation map? 3) If the answer to q1&2 is 'yes', any ideas on how to correct this? If you need any more info to help, then let me know. Thanks for any help and suggestions in advance. |

What is the zoom of each view? Grey indicates cities. I don't recall if night mode still shows the grey or black for cities.

For me the easiert way to check if your night and day mode are working properly is to check the sky on the screen.
Mine has clouds in the daytime and stars at night. Citties (nearby) also add a light glow on the horizon. It looks so cool my son loves to turn it on all the time (now set as programmable button number 8) ![]()

This is the answer. Brilliant, i was pulling my (not much left) hair out over this.
I unticked the 'traffic view' in the same menu as the night mode and map display went back to normal. Full colour mapping and it also switches to night mode as expected. Thanks for your help Memphis1 and of course to everyone else who replied to this question. Cheers ![]() |

No, I have to go into OPTIONS and MAP SETTINGS (i think) to tick the night mode box.
It seems like a long winded way to change a regularly used setting. It's a shame you can't set it to one of the short-cut keys. |

All I know is, mine is set in programmable button number 8.
Are you pressing the programmable button when you see the option to change between night and day, or after you have pressed the option for night and day? I did it before, while it was highlighted with the iDrive selector.

I'll give setting the shortcuts a go later on today. All I can say is the Idrive warned me that a shortcut couldn't be set for that option. I'll play around with the sequence and see what happens.

i wonder if there's a way to make it change colors according to the light sensor which activates the automatic headlights... or maybe a timer, according to sunset, etc...
