Ha, lucky you, with a helpful wife.

As you know, Murf, not much free in this world.

You are not actually signing up. You are automaticly enrolled without any action on your part. Your only choice is between "Origional Medicare" or a "Medicare Advantage Plan". Either way the deduction from your Social Security payment also starts automaticly the instant you turn 65. Like Esteban said..not much free anymore.

You may be automatically enrolled but you have to "activate" it. I started collecting Social Security almost 2 yeas ago but was still under my wife's medical insurance. Recently signed up to start using Medicare because my wife fully retired, and there were many choices to make. It can be complicated.

Every year my SS check is reduced, and my Medicare payment goes up because they say my income is too high. At this point my SS check is a full 25% less than when I started with Medicare. At this rate, should I live long enough, I anticipate that I will no longer receive a SS check, but instead will have to start sending checks to SS to cover my Medicare. Is this a great Country or what!?

What if it's 100F out and you got hot air blowing on you? I wouldn't exactly call that air conditioning.

"Air conditioning - a system for controlling the humidity, ventilation, and temperature in a building or vehicle, typically to maintain a cool atmosphere in warm conditions."

just saying…

I was going to respond "California" but I guess I have to specify "Beach SoCal"

If anyone is looking for the bargain of the year on an e-bike with only 0.1 miles on the odometer and never even outside of the house, please let me know. (Details of my Labor Day Amazon purchase are in the e-bike conversion thread.)

I had everything on the bike assembled early yesterday afternoon, with only an adjustment of the electronic display position on the handlebars and airing up the tires left to do. I swung my leg over the frame to straddle the bike, so that I could rotate the display to be most visible from a riding position. Next thing I knew, I was on the floor in our living room with the bike on top of me! I must have hit the throttle on the way down, because the rear wheel was spinning in the air. My Apple Watch's fall alert was triggered, and it was into the 30-second countdown before calling 911 that I had to abort. The odometer rang up 0.1 miles before I could reach the master battery switch to shut off the power and get out from under the bike. It took over 5 minutes after that to figure out how to get off the floor without kneeling, since I can't put weight on either knee cap without severe pain.

My left ankle has three deep gouges, my right knee is skinned again, my right shoulder has a scrape, and my left chest area where the gizmo is implanted is in pain like it took a direct punch. When my DW came home a little while later, she cleaned up the wounds and put on a total of seven band-aids.

Long story short, I have now come to grips with my life being over and that I am now too old to do even the simplest things.....

Slippers? There's a BMW in my driveway. No way can I also afford slippers!

A family friend who is an ER nurse pointed out the irony of me possibly killing myself trying to get some exercise to stay healthy, and suggested to my DW that I be wrapped in bubble wrap before trying to ride the bike for real. Personally, I'm thinking more along the lines of a police dog training bite-protection suit:

Off to the golf cart store to get a proper set of old man wheels, and then to have my ears lowered.....
