Carbon fibre wrapped trim sets for E89

There was a burst of activity a couple of years ago headed by Silverstar and Nitrix in using genuine carbon fibre to over lay on the E89 interior trim areas.

I bought from Silverstar a set of interior trims and some panels that had been carbon fibre’ d and then epoxy resin coated..

For various reasons they languished in my goodies cupboard…

This winter I decided to fit them, then as I pondered I realised that leaving the door handle trim in its original yukkie dark brown trim would be an affront to tactile and visual tastes..

Therefore I contacted Silverstar with a fire to getting these done..pleased to say he’s still in the market for doing them.

These arrived yesterday., just unwrapped and very beautiful.

So the good bits are..

Despite quite thick layers of epoxy the trim and controls reassemble without any issues

The photos don’t do justice to the lustre and depth

A lovely tactile feel to the finish

I had the gear gaiter re-finished by Royal Steering Wheels to suit them plus the Royal Steering wheel re-furb

Things to consider are

Unless you have a spare trim set there is a 2 to 3 week turnaround / down time

Costs..Silverstar quotes £500 for a complete set of your trim being processed..plus p+p..which given the time and quality I honk is very reasonable for the result…especially if you are a crack handed muppet

I think the cleaning of the surfaces will need to be done very carefully to avoid scratches in the epoxy

Well pleased and a big thanks to Silverstar

Unfortunately I’m limited to the house following a major eye op but hopefully in 4 to 6 weeks time I’ll be able to fit them.

Silverstar is based in Spain so may not work for most forum members here..I can supply his details if required..

So what exactly are these? Abs plastic then wrapped with real CF? or wrapped with CF vinyl then coated with epoxy? Or real molded CF?

Exactly…these are real carbon fibre weaves laid over the existing mouldings then epoxy resin coated, trimmed and then coated with yet more epoxy resin…

I like the door handle trim.

I'm trying to decide if I want to change from my anthracite dark wood or not. I wish the Anthracite was not a gloss finish , as I have the satin finish Canyon Brown Merino leather which is so smooth and not pebbly like Dakota.

I'd love to find a finish that is satin and not glossy. I wonder if they can provide a satin finish.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great upgrade

Yes you can make a satin version by polishing the final finish with extremely fine wire wool..

So after a few days of steadily working through the 2nd order issues caused by the new woofers, the MMI box, the carbon fibre trim and the front and rear car cams we are there ..

Had an issue where the Garmin USB plug was DOA…had to pop the centre console to use a who-flung-dung no brand usb 12v plug to get power to the cameras..

Bit of vacuuming after all the crap fell out of the cabin filter..fresh interior mats..not quite as good as I’d hoped for but heh ho..the same company did a great job on the Volvo but these just weren’t as good..

One of the c/f trims for the light switch wasn’t fully seated so a night on the bench with some wood clamps and some 2 pack epoxy glue fixed that..

MMI box seems stable ..

The mic sitting inside the trim cover over the steering shaft seems a bit deaf..I have to shout…

I’ll need to code out the BMW standard audio assist button so it calls Siri plus hook up the car cams to each other…the rear Garmin Mini 2 gets speed and location data from the front Garmin car cam..

A few videos on YouTube to try and give more of a perspective on the work..
