Traded in my Porsche 992 for a 2022 Audi R8 Performance Spyder!

Those of you who know my posts here know that my Bimmer is my DD (and a damn fun car to boot), but my true fun car has been my modded and tuned Porsche 911 Carrera S Cab.

Well, no more. Traded it in a few weeks ago and bought a brand spanking new Audi R8 Performance Quattro Spyder. 602 hp of naturally aspirated V10 glory. And glorious it indeed is:

What I said goodbye to:

Congrats and nice upgrade! The V10 is hard to beat, especially with it being quite possibly the last one in existence!

There is something cold and stale about the 992 body shape. Red on black looks good though.

^ My thoughts exactly.

Besides the R8, I believe the only car left with a NA V10 is the Lambo Huracan. The clock is ticking

Whenever I take this car out for a drive that engine just sings to me. It's like attending an opera

What a sad thing, that we have to give these up some day. EVs suck ass.....

^ Well, looks aside (a subjective thing), the Porsche 911 is one of the greatest driver's cars out there that doesn't cost Ferrari money.

I enjoyed every minute of that car. But to be honest, I was done with my adventure in this car, and I have to say that at some point it didn't feel "special" enough for me.

Not only that, but I grew weary of the image of the old retiree in the Porsche driving slowly to the golf course. I of course don't fit that bill, but that seems to be like what 80% of 911 owners are.

I highly respect Porsche and I think I will be back in one some day, in some capacity

Eh? You mean corvette surely? I don't think porsche ever had that image, most seem to be owned by middle aged guys.

I have a 997 which is a far more agricultural experience than a 992, different planet actually. The 992 looks big and the hood gills.. i can't place the wording but something doesn't work for me.

Congrats! Did you end up paying over MSRP?

R8 V10 is on my short list if I end up not liking my C8Z...if we can ever order them that is.

Actually, I bought it at MSRP. Pretty rare opportunity these days

Corvette is worse, but there are a lot of 911 owners who fall into the same camp. Just pitiful--I have no use for people who buy these cars and drive them slowly everywhere. Those people should be stripped of their cars.

I am on a local 997 whattsapp group and i'd say avg age is about 45 and they drive pretty hard. 175 members. I suspect they are proper enthusiasts though.

Good decision! Both amazing cars, but the R8 would definitely be my choice as well.

Congrats.
As another fellow R8 owner, I too approve of this message.

They really screwed up the exhausts on our cars (2021, 2022) so I highly recommend upgrading. I'm using Quicksilver and it's legendary:

Yeah, I'm trying to decided between what exhaust to get, as this thing is too quiet. I'm wary of drone, though, as my 992 had an aggressive exhaust that droned to high hell.

I'm thinking of going titanium on this one

So I heard two other exhausts for the R8. One of them was a Capristo and the second I'm not exactly sure. Maybe Armytrix? The Quicksilver was the most ferocious of them all. They all sounded great though.

I thought about doing full titanium like my Akra on the Z06 but when you realize the size of the R8 exhaust is TINY - the weight savings are almost non-existent between SS and Ti. Did make sense from a cost perspective. Do they have GPFs on the 2022 US models? Mine didn't have them.

^ I don't know if the 2022 has GPF. I do know that Quicksilver is on my list, but so is a non-valved titanium exhaust by these guys:

http://www.b-rogue.com/audi-exhausts...gen-ii-exhaust

I hear that titanium drones less.

Congrats. I understand your sentiments OP. The 911 is one of the best driver's cars on the planet, and is a true icon. You had a nice eye-catching spec as well. But it doesn't look or feel as exotic to own as cars like the R8, Aston Martins, etc.

I kept the stock exhaust and installed a CETE programmable exhaust valve controller. I can program when I want the exhaust open and the stock perf exhaust sounds really great without being obnoxious teenager loud. Might look into that before jumping into a system, unless you just want a system. ;-)

Hi Higgs, I’m the same Tupper that is on the R8 forums

Is the Cete easy to install and does it work on 2022 models? I’m not a very handy guy with cars

yes, mine is a 22 spyder quattro and was pretty easy to install but does require some mechanical knowledge (not as easy as hooking up AV system for example).
