The particular bug I was looking at was 2-tone blue and blue-gray. It wasn't quite as pretty as the one in the picture, but pretty close.

Me too, but the last iteration found me in the midst of about a gazillion of them. We had to shout at each other when we were outside. It went like that all summer. Now they're baaaaaack....

Went on a college geology field trip to Toluca in '96. Three of us in a VW bug. I have a pic I need to scan of a long line of VW bug taxis lined up along a street. They were everywhere in Mexico at the time.

Been in my house since '91. Never had a problem. Guess they don't come to SoCal, or at least my neck of the woods.

Thank God! Only saw locust problems in Excorcist 2. lol

They chew some leaves. Nothing horrendous. The worst of it for us is avoiding squishing them.

When I met my now-wife she had a cat that thought cicadas were great playthings. She'd bring them in the house, chase them around, eventually eat them. Scared the whee out of us with a fresh catch more than once!

When the cicada hatches out of the ground it climbs a tree where it sheds its exoskeleton (which sticks on the tree looking pretty prehistoric) ...then for a few weeks it mostly just makes noise.

They climb stone fronts on garages too.

The noise has started here. Still few enough of them that you can differentiate one and another. Soon it will just be a constant tone.
