Open to a supercharged C7 vette? I saw a C8 on the road a couple of days ago and they definitely aren't as pretty IMO, also autotragic.

I heard the GT350 isn't very nicely setup to drive on everyday beat up roads, can not confirm. On paper and the noise they make sounds amazing tho.

Manuals aren't very easy to find these days in any price range it seems.

I just went through the excercise, but was locked into a manual & convertible. I ultimately went the sensible approach and got a 2017 991.2 base cab, but the Aston tugged at my hearstrings more. I've heard horror stories about R8 maintenance costs from a friend who had one. The 911 is like the miata, its always the right choice.
I may need to drive Vantage again - i drove one long time ago.
Even DB9s are so cheap now. British used cars are definitely a gamble lol

Can’t go wrong with 911.

I was browsing through the forums while watching Hoovie's AM video. While the initial prices to buy are very reasonable, a clutch replacement on the AMV8 is $4k+ for just parts. Also saw a couple of threads about V12 rod bearing issues. As an owner of S54 and S65 powered vehicles, I don't have the patience to add another one of those

I think it's the case of when things are good, it's good. But when it's bad, it's safe to assume it'll be very expensive if it's not a common Ford part. Matt Farah said he dropped $2700 on handbrake cables for his Vanquish.

Agree with this. Astons are stunning to look at, but their reliability is terrible, there is no way I'd want to deal with that maintenance headache. The part costs alone would dissuade me, not from just the cost but the frequency of issues. I was watching Travarish's bootleg version of TopGear that they did for Youtube and the mechanic inspection on a 3 yr old car showed some serious faults.

Answer here is Porsche 2-seater, 911 is definitely on my radar in the near term.

Jaguar F type??

I much prefer GT350 to C7. Both have pluses / minuses.

Answer here is Porsche 2-seater, 911 is definitely on my radar in the near term.
Here were some notes from when I was considering the R8, AMV* an d 991.2 verts:

I could find any of the 3 in my price range (under $100k all in).

There's a reason older AMV8s are so cheap

watch from 4:22 to 4:43 or to 5:00...
Problem is, Hammond is right, and they are so pretty and pull hard at your heart strings.

Seems like real manuals are averaging about $5k higher for Astons. The ones that go in the $40s are relatively old. Newer ones are in the $60 - $80k range...

V8 R8s from 2011 - 2014 are in the $70-$90k. There were only about 168 manual spyders produced.

That's another drawback of going the r8 or amv8 route... The R8 would be 5 years older than the 911 I'd get and the AMV8 doesn't seem to hold up really well, whereas the 911 could be used regularly. If you budgeted e39 m5 maintenance costs, you'd probably be ahead of the game with a 911, probably not so much with the other two.

The turbo engine on the base 991.2 adds a lot of low end torque without losing much in the way of revvyness (more V8 like). It is also cheaply tunable for easy 400+ HP. You can also get a full Fidelity Warranty for a couple grand and have multiple years of low risk ownership.

I was surprised to see you have an LC 500 on your list. Even more surprised that you can find a 2018 for under $75k.

As much as I like these cars, the interior is the deal breaker for me. Also coming from someone who owns an IS 350, i do like my Lexus but it has absolutely no soul to it whatsoever.

Any interest in the 997 GT3 or the Viper ? I know vipers are in the 80-90k range but the values are only going up and its 6 speed + NA. And a much more pure sports car than a vantage, v8 R8, e92 or GT350. If it were me i'd save up more to get one.

if you want a e92 or gt350, i'd just dump the f80. these cars all have a lot of overlap in what they do. I'd imagine you want something 'special' that doesn't have much overlap with your F80.

R8 would be nice too. can't really knock it. but i'd test drive one first to see if you like it. its definitely going to feel slow compared to an F80.

981 GTS, one drive and you will be sold. It's more usable on a daily basis than a GT4. Leaves room left over for expenses. 991 S/4S is also great, don't think you will find a clean GTS at that price point. If you don't have an extra $20k laying around for repairs/maintenance on a 360 I would definitely avoid that.

I recommend you drive the LC500 - it has one of the best stock engine / exhaust notes, paired with the 10speed auto its lots of fun. No manual though. The prices on these are very reasonable.

I think the driving experience with manual and NA V8 will be different enough compared to F80. I agree that there is some overlap but i have 2 kids so backseats would be plus. I have put them in my BRZ to go for rides.

No interest in Viper.
997 GT3 are well over $75k at least from my search.

GT350 is an excellent choice if you want something in warranty, that car is simply sublime and sounds fantastic, I loved driving that car up through the canyons. The new Camaro's also drive, handle and steer excellently if you can get past the quality and looks, and C7's should still be available as leftovers.

In the used market an Aston Martin or Audi R8 could be interesting, as well as AMG GT's

While not V8's, for manual sports cars a 981 Boxster/Cayman as well as an F-Type could also be interesting.

You can find 997.1 GT3s around that price point. That’s a lot of fun and head turning for that coin.

I mean, this one has 12k miles and sold for about $81k with BaT fees. I’d say you could get a pretty nice one for $75k... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...he-911-gt3-24/

Neighbor has a new GT350, and that thing is too cool. If vanity is your thing, don’t bother. I’m a car nut, and it still took me getting right up on it to determine if it was a tricked out GT or a GT350. For the driver, it has ALL the bees’ knees. But if you’re trying to be the coolest dude doing laps around the mall, you’re just a dude with a Mustang.

At your price, you could get an E92M AND and an E46M. Two of the best N/A motors in existence!

Have you considered a Z4MC? “Similar” to the BRZ, but a lot more fun with the S54. Prices have been flat for a while.

I would add to the list C7 and C8 (prepare to wait). I would also add 991.2. While I love the 991.1, the extra usable turbo power in the 991.2 is pretty intoxicating. And instead of a new Cayman GTS, I would look at a '15-16 GTS. However, similar to the 991.1, once you drive the flat 4 GTS, you will not be as impressed. Also some Porsche-files claim the flat six is just wonderful sounding but in order to get that sound, you have to really flog it all the time which just isn't feasible unless it's a track car. If you aren't opposed to flat 4, due to racism, you can get a great deal on a 17-19 Cayman/Boxster that will outperform almost anything out there.

Disclaimer: I own a C7 (waiting for C8) and a 718 Boxster.

I looked at 15-16 Cayman GTS but nothing much available. There are way more GT4s for sale but all are $85 - $100k.

I plan to look at 991.2 Carrera T and 991.1 GTS - both are significantly higher than $75k though. Porsche prices are crazy but these are CPO for 2 years and unlimited miles.

As far as C8 - if the Z06 gets a 5.5 NA V8, that would be my choice but this would be 2-3yrs down the road when all the hype dies down.

I'd do a T over a GTS, GTS is just a trim exercise. I thought we were shopping for R8's?

Not sure if i can stomach out of warranty R8.
There are not many local ones that I can look at but these are definitely on my list.

The 991.1 GTS had the detuned engine from 991.1 GT3.

Go for the T, one of my favorite 991 trims outside of GT cars, drives excellent, and despite having the base engine, I along with others have found that the turbo's spool much quicker in that engine than say an S/GTS, and the manual (of course the obvious transmission choice ) was given shorter gearing compared to other models which also makes the drive even better.

For a .2, sure. But .1’s sell in that $75k-ish range. A couple quick grabs that sold. There are others that are “bid to” in that range that didn’t sell, but that’s indicative of the market nevertheless.

I don’t understand the appeal of the T. Yes you can get a couple light extras the S has plus flimsy fabric door pulls, but I’d rather just get a base model (which is what a T is) and find one with the right options like sport exhaust and sport chrono and laugh all the way to the bank. You can always put Carrera T stickers on the doors if that makes you feel better.

A few CPO options very close to your price limit. I’m sure with a little negotiation, you can get close to $75k.
