I got this one on day 3. I turned the car on. I get the normal message and i press ok then i get this.

Went to dealership today and need to book it in for a diagnostic checkup.

hope it's nothing serious. The guy said it shouldn't be. But i don't notice anything when driving the car. Everything drives as per normal.

But then again if it failed on day one then it never worked so....

Hope they fix it when i take it in, in 2 days time.

anyone else seen this? or other bmw's perhaps?

I am experiencing long engine cranking when the car is cold. The guys on e90post are telling me it is the early signs of fuel pump failure. I can't believe BMW is still having HPFP problems with the N54 3 years later. They were aware of the problem when I owned my 2007 335i coupe. No fuel pump codes yet (scanned with BT cable), so I guess I will have to wait until the problem gets worse before going to the dealer.

For the loose passenger side handle, it was screwed back on tightly to fix. So, I guess the car left the factory with the screws loose.

Does this refer to the Normal, Sport, Sport+ mode function... or is it the M suspension?

almost 1 year and 17000 km.. average temperature 12 degres.. no convertible mode yet..

despite almost 1 week at dealer in total (for various rattles and door adjustment) , they have not been able to propery fix most rattles and have decided to live with. this car has a soul apprently

otherwise, last month, one xenon sensor went down and needed to be replaced and the AC/heating unit stopped functioning... the unit had to be changed + resistance..

not dramatic though, but car ranks quite poorly compared to previous ones as for ownership experience..

I love my Z and overall it's a great drive but it's not been my most reliable beemer.

Just a few problems so far which have (apart from one)been resolved quickly by my dealer:-

1. Condensation/water in rear light units -both replaced under warranty
2. Front undertray loose (just behind front valance) - fixed by dealer
3. Complete roof failure (message "Roof Hydraulics too hot"). Car taken to dealer and new parts fitted.
4. Occasionally windows out of syncronisation when raising roof, and when using single button for all four windows - still unresolved and under investigation by BMW
5. I sometimes experience problems filling the fuel tank, pump keeps cutting off! Frustrating!

I'm pleased to say I have no rattles and after 12000+ miles, still love my Z4. In other words the positives far out weigh the negatives

6 weeks and 1,300 miles/2,000 km and no rattles or problem. Knock on wood, er, aluminum!

There is an occasional driveline sound under hard acceleration between 3k and 4k rpms but I don't think that's really a problem.

Apart from the plastic housing opening up around the inside mirror I've experienced no problems yet after driving 5,500 KM ~touch wood~

EDIT .... 12/15/2010 ..... I just came across this post (posted just before I traded her in), this problem was with my former Z4 30is Made in the UAA that I traded in for my now sDrive Z4 35i

Since the new model has been out for about a year, and I've had my 2009 Z4 for 9 months now, I can say that I've personally had NO troubles/issues that would/should have any effect on the LONG TERM resale value of the Z4 in general.

The owners in this forum represent only a small fraction of the total number of Z4 owners, therefore any issues discussed are present in only in a small fraction of the Z4s. Not unlike the % we see in any other BMW, or any other Luxury brand car.

that's fuel pump (station) dependent, nothing wrong with your car. everyone in the M3 and 3 series forum have confirmed findings

trouble free? HELL NO!

* after 1000km the ignision coil broke. had to be replaced.
* the other day my idrive screen fucked up, went all red. after full idrive reset it came back.
* the roof tray that you gotta put down has some cracks in it already, after a few months of use. simply by pushing it down that happened.
* Z4 silver inlay panel in the drivers door has come off, as for some reason a pin below broke.
* random error's in idrive have popped up, and gone away again.
* roof sometimes tells me the car is on a strange angle, so the roof wont work, but the car is actually perfectly straight/flat.

These are some of my probs.

Still love the car!

some prbs so far (~1,500kms)

1. slight 'whirling' noise from behind seats...seems to be from LPFP...however, the noise is pretty much gone now, so perhaps a breaking-in issue for me? keeping fingers crossed

2. sometimes a slight grinding noise on driver's side mirror when I retract it, so will need to get that checked

3. started using heated seats ftn and that seems to have triggered the 'air bag light' and 'seatbelt light', so will check that also

Otherwise, car has been great in terms of engine, no rattles, fitment. Hope to get these issues resolved next time I head to the dealer.

The only issue I have had is a trunk seal that was replaced shortly after delivery.

11.000 km, soon to be one year old: air conditioning unit makes a noise when it's very hot and humid outside (rpm related but only when the AC it's on).

It was replaced under warranty but the new one still makes the noise.

The noise sounds like a fan slowing down as your car slows down without using the brakes.

For instance stay in 3rd at 4.000 rpm and take the feet from the gas pedal; as the car starts to slow down (engine break basically) you are going to start hearing the noise... you can switch on and off the AC button to hear the difference.

It's SO annoying. Sounds like an electric car.
