If SLK will have an AMG version, Z4 will have a M version too.
Today Z4 35iS is the rival for TT RS.
So the M version will not appear quite soon

The M5 will be available as it joins the X5M and X6M with the M6 Coupe coming later in 2012. This leaves nothing for the compact-medium segment for M Division. The same problem when the previous car was introduced , the M3 was just about dead and nothing to support the larger M5 and M6 models.

That is why the talking about a Z4M is getting louder again.
It wont be a V8 though - That engine dies with the M3.
Discussion lies with the idea of recooperating short-term development investment with the powerplant devised for the 1M Coupe.
This will help BMW recover development costs of the short-term units of the 1M Coupe.

Im M-Forum wurde gerade ein Interview von Autos.sympatico.ca mit Kay Segler gepostet. Eine Antwort könnte zum Z4M passen:

Translation of above .... (In the M Forum at Autos.sympatico.ca there was a interview with Kay Segler, one of his answers may give a hint to the Z4M)

Q: Will there be more special edition M3's in the future (i.e. GTS)?
A: M is always good for surprises. We will do other cars, maybe something within the next 12 months.

In my opinion one never knows what BMW will do to steer interest in the marketplace ... I guess only time will tell and we all have to wait

It will probably be a different engine or tune from the 1M since the Z4 3.5is already has the 1M engine. I would be interested in a Z4M

If Z4M does come out, it would be M3 engine.
Why? the engine space is huge and definitely enough space for it.
But, I highly doubt that it's coming...
If it does come out... it will be the KING of the hardtop roadster for sure..
SLK AMG to the dust..

Agreed, it could be anything As I said time will tell.

As for me I am happy the way my Z4 3.5i behaves at times I think it behaves better then my 2002 M3 (sold last spring) it had 333 HP compared to my now 300 HP Z4. With top speed limits in my country set at 120 KM/Hour (74.5 MPH) I am quite content with my Z4.

I hope so, but what would be the price line?
I am not sure that people will buy z4 m priced higher than M3..
But, the fact is,
if you look at Z4is price, it is not far apart from M3.
Which means if z4 m is released, it has to be priced higher than M3
because the price difference between z4is and z4 m should be at least $10k..
So, I would be surprised if z4 m is ever released.

Z4M on the way? M Division focusing on the M3... AND THE Z4?

I was reading this interview between BMW Blog and Dr. Segler:

I noticed this tidbit:

Quote:
BMWBLOG: In a previous interview we had with Dr.Theissen, he said that the M3 is the pinnacle of the BMW M . My questions are: does this put any pressure on your group to develop a better car all the time, and second – do you use the feedback that you get from Motorsport, to build future M cars?

Dr. Kay Segler: Yes, especially since the discontinuation of the Formula 1, we are concentrating very much on the M3 – especially M3, also Z4, but M3 in particular, and for instance we are building the M3 GT4 in our company, and our friends at BMW Motorsports are running the cars. It’s a very intense cooperation, and maybe will be more intense in the future. That’s the focus of what we both do and I guess in the future there’s also one other technology that we definitely can use directly from the race program.
Thoughts? Z4M coming?

I thought of that too... And i remember reading an article about the GT3. But as far as development on the GT3, that's already done. So his comment to me seems to indicate a focus on new development of something that has to do with the Z4...

+1

As stated the GT3 is a done deal on on the circuits as we speak. The context of the statement was receiving and using feedback from motorsport for development of future M cars. He stated the M3 was priority No. 1, but also a Z4. . .

I think if he meant further development Z4 GT3 he would have said it.

The surprise ended up being M5.
With current z4 sales and oil price, I really don't see M coming at all, period.

I still don't think he was referring to the M5 in that context. Sure, the M5 will be launched later this year (or early next year in some markets), but the context was about a car nobody expects to come.

Best regards,
south

Old z4m was same as m3 price but now the z4 is a higher market car, different customer. If it comes out expect m3 vert prices of $80k for fully loaded. About $20k more than a SLK AMG but that is going to be under 400hp.
