Wheels for the ZED
Hi Guys,
Hope to enlist you again for some input.. I've been doing a lot of research and gallery searches to find some wheels. 1- What do you guys think of 20s on the Zed ? are they too big, too showy ? mine came with 19s, they did not make an impact on me. My BMW SA thinks 20's are bit too much for this car. I've seen guys here with 20s they seem nice. What do you guys think ? 2- What kind of a setup do you think i can get for 4 to 5K ? Do you guys have any favourites that you'd want on your Z ? I really would like some HREs but the ones I want are a bit too Pricey for our roads.. Can you guys point me in the right direction ? Thanks Guys. -S |

Problem with 20's is that the rotors aren't big enough. They'll look stupidly small. You'll need to upgrade to big brakes if you want the right look, IMO.

i think 20's would look a bit too big on the Z, 326 19's seem perfect
this is the downside of large wheels

Yeah, see that's what I mean. He's got 20's and a big brake kit (on the front, at least). You need to fill up the space between the hub and rim with something substantial.

It is all personal preference and it is your car, so do what you want in the end.
However, since you asked, I do not like the 20s as they just make the car look a little boy racer cartoonish for my taste. The 19s are perfect visually, plus 20s weigh quite a bit more and this means a loss in performance for style. The first picture is of my favorite wheel and a set of 19" staggered runs about $4-5k if that is your price range. I am almost certain those are BBS LM-Rs, which come in a few different finishes. It is just my preference to always avoid visual modifications that might suggest that I am compensating for something . . . and huge wheels cross that line for me. |

It's a lease so I don't know if I should change brakes..I guess I should look into 19s. A member (///Carbon ) here had 20's on the OEM brakes they didn't look that bad, but too bad his wheels cracked i think.. Pic posted by ///carbon, http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthre...2F%2F%2Fcarbon |

hello vert335i i dont know where in Canada you live, but here in Montreal 20 inches wheels on the Z is unthinkable whit the kind of street (bad) we have here, they would'nt resist a week of driving. I have the 18 inches strong style 293 wheels so i dont have to stress whit pothole.

My 2 cents: Ace Convex 20x9 ET35 Front, 20x10 ET40 Rear with 245/30 & 285/25.
I don't think rotors look sooooooooo small... 19" are beautiful for the E89, probably the best size...... but 20" are headturners And if you do not drop the car, confort is close to OEM 18 RFT.

If you're going with 20's, I think you need to get wheels with a lip or a characteristics that makes the wheels looks a bit smaller like maybe in black. Or else the wheels will definitely look too big and out of proportion.
This is one of my favorite set-ups with 20" wheels. I think it helps that the wheels are black so it doesn't look intimidatingly huge.

I haven't seen any 20s on the Zed in person so it was hard for me to get a feel for them, and I do live in a place where we only have potholes with some roads thrown in here and there.
Options I was looking at were HREs, Forged1 and ISS. I'll probably go for 19s with a drop. pics of the Forged1 and ISS 20s next to my car, my winters are on 17s. Quote:
