Music from iPhone

On my 2013 535i when I plug in my iPhone, I can go to my different play lists and pick out whatever I want to hear. Play any playlist or single.

However on my 2011 Z4 this is not the case. The only way I can play music from the same iPhone is by plugging in the cable to the ear piece on the phone and route it through the system that way. The music has to be chosen from the phone and it never displays on the display in the car.

After looking through the manual, it appears it should hook up the same as the 535. Am I doing something wrong?

Do you have both the USB and aux cable jacks under your arm rest? If so, then using the "Y" cable that came with the car should enable you view and play your play lists with no issue.

You should have a Y shaped USB/audio iPhone connecting cable. It's supposed to come with the car, but if you don't have it, get it on Ebay or something. anyway, plug this into the USB/audio jacks under the arm rest, then connect the other end into the recharging connector on your phone. then just find your phone on the idrive under external connections and you'll see your entire music library. You can scroll or search as you please.

Thank you both for the advise. I do not have the Y but will get one.

Same,

I have the Y cable and all info shows up on the idrive, just like with the IPOD.
