So they delivered my package I was expecting last week into my mailbox. In the mailbox is outgoing mail.

Go to mailbox and think “weird they didn’t lower the flag.” Open to get the small package and find that they just stuffed it over (and crumpled in the process) our outgoing mail instead of picking it up.

I’m about at the point to stop buying from Amazon because EVERY package I order from them has an issue and is delivered by USPS.

Looks like USPS lost my insurance check. Again.

Blame Amazon. They are why USPS is slower that shit.

I ship hundreds of packages per day. Packages that normally take 3-4 days to arrive took anywhere from 15-20 days if you shipped the first 2 weeks or so of December. USPS has tons of shortages in the workforce, there is the COVID issue, everyone is buying online, and they don't have the warehouse space....hence why things sit for days and days and days.

I wish they would tell Amazon to kick rocks....they basically prioritize Amazon and everyone else takes a back seat.

Berkeley, MO is a suburb of St. Louis. To get there from Indy, you have to drive through Effingham where our local Fedex hub is located. So they drove right past that to bring this small package all the way to STL just to drive it back to Effingham, Or maybe they plan on shipping it to Champaign instead. That's our other local hub. In any case, I doubt they'll deliver it today as promised.

That would never happen, because Amazon is probably one of their biggest clients.

In December 2020, my parents said they stopped receiving packages (letters only) and they later found out that the courier that serviced their sub-division was fired lol.

USPS sent out letters saying they still have all their boxes in storage and they would ship them out as soon as they can lol.

So my package did get driven back to Effingham and is supposedly out for delivery. I guess Fedex has their methods, but driving past a smaller hub to get to a larger hub to bring things back to the smaller hub seems a waste of time and fuel.

I’ve seen packages flown from Ft. Lauderdale (about 50 miles away) to Memphis and then back to West Palm by FedEx. There is also no (or very limited) interaction between FedEx overnight and FedEx ground. They seem like completely different companies. Their logistics often seem idiotic to me, but what do I know...

Express and Ground are indeed different companies. They pretty much operate entirely separately from each other. For logistics on the scale that companies like FedEx deal with, there will be some seemingly questionable routes. The goals are cost cutting (reducing or killing low volume routes) and overall efficiency (hubs). It might seem strange to see a package travel "away" from the destination, but that just means it's faster than waiting for trailers to fill up or cheaper than having a dedicated route that sees low volume. The path that your singular package takes is a drop in the ocean of millions of packages that they are moving, and therefore is basically irrelevant.

Sure, if it were the only package traveling such a short distance that would make sense. But in reality, there are many dozens, if not hundreds of packages traveling from one county to the next every day. These are counties where millions of people live and work, not obscure rural locations. So it would take a fair amount of logistical rationalization to justify putting all those packages on a plane to travel 1,000 miles to Memphis and another 1,000 miles back, increasing chances for delays, damage or losses because of the timing of shipments, weather problems in Memphis or sorting / extra handling. Killing off inefficient routes makes sense, but there is cost associated with moving packages extra distances and handling them at extra stops. If their algorithms tell them they are maximizing profit, good for them, but I doubt they don't have room for efficiency improvements, particularly with the increased volumes over the past 9-12 mos. FedEx and UPS both seem to continue to struggle with the increased volumes, which was understandable initially, but as more time passes, it is less so.

Stationed in Germany and my package (xbox) hasn't changed status since December 14. Pretty sure it's "lost".

Berekely is the Lambert Airport facility...it flew from Indy to STL, and now it's going by truck to Effingham...doesn't explain why it didn't go by truck from Indy...but, maybe that's not how their network works...no idea.

Did they really fly from Indy to STL? That seems a huge waste for a trip you can make in 3.5 hours by truck. And Indy to Effingham is a 2 hour drive.

Something annoying I've noticed lately is stuff will be marked delivered when it isn't *actually* delivered until a day or so later. I can imagine it is being done by someone trying to meet metrics, but it's really annoying because it means for a period of time I don't know if something happened to the package, they didn't feel like getting out of the truck, or it's still en-route.

Well this sucks. feuer was kind enough to help me out with a set of 335 calipers with all the necessary hardware.

USPS appears to have lost 1 Caliper, 1 Caliper Carrier, 1 Anti Rattle Clip, 3 Brake Pads, and 3 Carrier Bolts. It wasn't greasy before but it sure is now. The box is trashed and I bet if I weighed everything it wouldn't be the amount he paid for shipping.

Feuer was even kind enough to refund me the money which I don't think is fair to him. I didn't even have to ask. I'll be filing a report to USPS and if the claim goes through I'll be making it up to you!!

Edit: Just weighed everything. It's 11lbs. USPS gave Feuer a hard time because it weighed to much to pay $20 for shipping so they called him up to pay an additional $50 for a new ticket for 29 lbs. Where on Earth did the other 18lbs go???

So this happened. My mother sent Christmas cards to my son's family in Texas late last year. She was concerned that they might not make it in time due to all of the postal fuckery brought on by VID + the buffoon in charge at the time. So we ponied up extra for 'Priority Mail' which back in the good old days pretty much meant 2 days but which in these troubled times we hoped meant preferential treatment and hopefully less than 2 weeks.

Went into the system on the 13th of December.

Arrived in San Antonio on the 25th. Of January.

They're not losing stuff, they're just taking forever and a day to get it where it's going. I got an advertising flyer today announcing an after Christmas sale -- "hurry, ends January 2nd!"

I just remembered that I didn't post about the funny one that happened to me a few weeks ago.

Around Halloween, I placed an order with a small company for something that was on back-order. They were extremely open in their customer support forum about the product's status and anticipated arrival dates. In mid-December, they announced that the product had left the factory in China and was on its way to an air cargo shipper for delivery to their office before Christmas. I replied back on the thread that my prediction was that us customers would not have the product in our hands before 1/11 - 1/15. Long story short, the shipment arrived at their office on 1/6 as I figured, not before Christmas as they anticipated.

Trying to prove me wrong about my prediction, the shipping person pulled the first box off of the pallet and immediately shipped it to me...USPS red alert...in your hands by 10:00 AM the next day guaranteed...or the Postmaster General convenes a firing squad. The organ-transplant-grade shipping probably cost them twice what I paid for the product!

Well, as this thread has repeatedly shown, the USPS never fails...to disappoint. The package sat in their regional terminal for a few days, then vanished in transit between two terminals over the weekend, and finally arrived at my front door...on 1/12...hand-delivered by a uniformed local post office employee in their own personal car...because it arrived at the local post office after our carrier left to start the day's deliveries.

On the bright side, the company has a refund coming for the ludicrous shipping fee they were charged for delivery. I don't know when the firing squad will be convened. They and I had a good laugh over the whole thing.....

I ordered something off ebay 1 month ago.

I live in CO, the seller was in Florida. USPS sent my package to PARIS....yes, THAT Paris, you know, the one in FRANCE. I ultimately received it.

It went: FL->NY->France->NY->FL->CO

WTF?

I ordered some chocolate. THOUGHT I was ordering from a local (US) vendor. Seems they are just a front for a south American company. Tracking says some random company, with no real tracking data, and that my chocolate will arrive between Feb 11 and March 5. TF???

P.S. Yes, it will be melted by the time it gets here

Don't they grow cocoa in South America? Almost makes sense that it is being shipped from there...some way or another.

Whatever you do, never order chocolate from Africa! I had a co-worker bring back a large candy bar of orange-laced chocolate from Ghana to share around our office, and the stuff tasted like a crime against chocolate humanity to me.....
