E89 Headlight Relay Location

I'm trying to locate the low/high beam relay for my 2009 E89. I don't see it labeled in the fuse box under the dash, nor in the DME area under the hood, nor near the headlight assembly.

Issue:
* low/high beam will not come on
* angel eyes work fine
* side markers (headlight and fender) work fine
* neither old bulbs nor new bulbs (D1S) will fire up!
* all 3 fuses are good (62, 84, 86)

I recently bought the car and the low/high beam have never ignited under my watch.

Any help is greatly appreciated

This is what could be happening...

If the computer module that runs the lights (and other systems) detects a short circuit (high current draw) it will shut down that circuit and it will not come back on even if you were to find the short and repair it.

To enable this circuit again, you likely will need to take it to the dealer unless you can manage to figure it out using advanced software like Tool32.

NoQuarter,

You may have hit the jackpot! I pulled a Carly scan and found code 009cbb (short circuit fault / short circuit fault 2), which based on my research could certainly disable key circuits.

I will try to remove the fault (tool32) and report back.

thanks again

1. Figured out tool32
2. Reset the counters
3. Didn't solve the issue
4. Indy says both ballasts shot

Will advise
